A soundbar can sound ahead of or behind the picture when the TV, soundbar, or connected source processes audio and video at different speeds. A broadcast or wireless connection can also introduce delay, and playing the TV speakers and soundbar together can create an echo. First check whether the problem affects one channel or every source; that points you toward the right fix.
Why soundbar audio and the TV picture get out of sync
Audio and video pass through processing steps before they reach your ears and eyes. If those steps take different amounts of time, speech no longer matches lip movement. LG support describes this as a possible timing difference between the TV and soundbar processing digital signals: LG’s explanation of echo and out-of-sync sound.
- Broadcast or source: A delay affecting only one channel may be tied to that channel’s broadcast signal. A set-top box or other external device can also be involved.
- Connection path: Samsung notes that a poor external-device connection can contribute. Wireless audio/video transmission may also move data more slowly than a wired path.
- Two active outputs: If the TV’s built-in speakers and the soundbar play simultaneously, their different processing and speaker timing can make the same sound arrive twice, producing an echo.
These symptoms do not by themselves show that the soundbar is defective. The useful first step is to determine whether the mismatch follows one program, one source, or all sound from the TV.

- Compare sources. Try another channel, a streaming app, and a connected device if available. If only one channel has the problem, LG recommends contacting the service provider about that broadcast signal; Samsung’s audio-delay guidance also identifies broadcast delay as a possibility.
- Identify the route. Note whether the soundbar uses HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, or wireless, and whether audio passes through a set-top box or another device. eARC is relevant only when both the TV and soundbar support it.
- Check whether both speaker systems are on. If sound comes from the TV and soundbar at once, temporarily choose one output. If the echo disappears, the issue is the timing of the two outputs rather than a general picture fault.
If the symptom follows a single channel, address the broadcast. If it follows a particular external source, check that device and its connection. If it occurs across sources, try the TV or soundbar sync settings next.

Adjust the TV’s audio-sync setting
TV menu names and availability vary by model and software. On supported LG TVs running webOS 6.0 or later, LG’s cited path is Settings → All Settings → Sound → Advanced Settings → Match Screen and Sound → Bypass. Bypass sends the relevant signal without added audio delay. If it does not correct the mismatch, turn Bypass off and adjust TV Speaker Delay carefully. Older LG menus may instead show AV Sync Adjustment. See LG’s model-dependent audio and video sync instructions for the applicable controls.
Do not assume this menu applies to every output or connection. Check the TV manual if the setting is missing or its effect is unclear.

Adjust the soundbar’s sync setting
Look for AV Sync, Audio Sync, or SYNC on the soundbar remote or in its manual. Change the value in small increments while watching speech, allowing each change to take effect before making another. The correct direction depends on the device: some controls delay sound, while others change timing differently.
Samsung Australia documents a 0–300 ms adjustment range for applicable, model-dependent soundbar controls; this range is not universal. Use the instructions for your exact model rather than assuming another soundbar has the same range or button sequence. See Samsung Australia’s soundbar sync instructions. Samsung Germany also provides regional guidance at Samsung Germany’s audio-delay sync page; menus and controls may differ by market.

Stop an echo when the TV and soundbar both play
For a clear test, set the TV to use only the soundbar or only its built-in speakers. LG recommends using one output to avoid echo from simultaneous playback. In the LG setup described by its support guidance, choosing PCM under Digital Sound Output can reduce processing delay. PCM may not suit every soundbar or audio format, so confirm compatibility with the device instructions before changing the output format.
Check the connection and software only when they are relevant
- Reseat the existing cable and inspect both ends if the connection seems loose or intermittent. Check the source device’s connection and settings as well as the TV and soundbar.
- If you use wireless audio, compare it with a wired connection supported by your equipment. A wireless path can contribute to delay, but switching is only an option if both devices support the alternative.
- Check for available software updates as part of troubleshooting when the problem persists; Samsung includes this in its general audio-delay guidance.
- Consider another HDMI cable only if the current cable or connection is suspect. A replacement cable is not a general fix for processing delay, and ARC/eARC compatibility must be confirmed in both device manuals.
Choose which sync control to use
There is no single setting that fixes every setup. A TV control such as LG’s Bypass affects the TV’s processing of the relevant signal; a soundbar sync control changes sound timing on applicable models. Choose the control that applies to the path showing the mismatch, then adjust gradually and reassess across the affected sources. Device manuals govern the exact setting and its direction.
