If Samsung Smart View is not working, first check that both your Galaxy phone or tablet and the receiving TV support screen mirroring, then connect them to the same network and approve the connection on the TV. Restarting both devices is a good next step. A video that stays black may be blocked by content protection rather than a faulty connection. This guide covers Samsung Galaxy Smart View; menus and support vary by device model and region.
Check that both devices support screen mirroring
Samsung says Smart View is available on Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 4.3 or later when the receiving device supports Miracast. However, Samsung also cautions that screen mirroring is not available on every device. Check the specifications or support information for your exact phone or tablet and TV model before troubleshooting further. Samsung’s Smart View and screen-mirroring guidance explains the compatibility requirement.
- The Galaxy device must support Smart View or screen mirroring.
- The TV or display must support the relevant mirroring method, such as Miracast.
If the TV does not appear in Smart View
- Connect the phone or tablet and TV to the same network. Samsung recommends this for Smart View. Samsung’s connection guidance describes the requirement.
- Restart both the Galaxy device and the TV, then open Smart View and search again. Samsung recommends restarting or rebooting as an initial fix. Samsung’s troubleshooting page says restarting will usually solve Smart View issues.
- If the TV still does not appear, recheck that both specific models support screen mirroring. Do not assume that all Galaxy devices or TVs have the same capabilities.
If the TV appears but the connection stalls or is refused
Look at the TV screen for a prompt asking you to allow the Galaxy device to connect. Accept it if you recognize the device and want to mirror to that TV. If you previously denied access, check the TV’s device-connection or access settings and allow the phone. Menu names and locations differ by TV model. Samsung’s Smart View guidance notes that TV permission may be required, and Samsung’s device-connection guidance covers managing access.
If a particular video is blank or blocked
Samsung says DRM-protected content cannot be mirrored. If Smart View connects but a protected video does not display, the restriction may be intentional rather than a general Smart View failure. Try watching through the provider’s supported TV app or casting option, if one is available. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance explains the DRM limitation.

If wireless mirroring still will not connect
Samsung lists a USB-C-to-HDMI cable as an alternative to wireless mirroring. This is not a universal fix: verify that your exact phone supports wired video output and that the cable or adapter matches its connector before buying. Samsung’s information does not establish wired display support for every Galaxy device. See Samsung’s listed wired alternative and Smart View guidance.
About network stability and TV updates
Samsung Korea’s guidance recommends checking that devices use the same Wi-Fi network, checking for TV updates, and confirming Miracast support; it also says 5 GHz works best in its guidance. Network configurations and device behavior can differ, so treat the band as a troubleshooting check, not a universal requirement. Samsung Korea’s screen-mirroring guidance provides that regional advice.
