A slow phone is not automatically a bad phone, and “LG sucks” is not enough to identify the cause. First work out whether the whole device is lagging or only tasks that need an internet connection. Then check storage, updates, power settings, and apps in that order. The right steps depend on whether you have Android or an iPhone; LG menu names also vary by model and software version.
First, tell device lag from a slow connection
Try a few tasks that do not rely on the internet, such as opening Settings or viewing a photo already stored on the phone. If those respond normally but web pages, streaming, or online apps stall, the phone itself may not be the problem. Compare Wi-Fi with cellular data, or test in another location. Apple notes that network congestion and reconnecting to cell towers can make an iPhone or iPad feel slow even when the signal looks strong. If cellular trouble continues in different locations, contact your carrier.
If menus and offline apps lag too, continue with the device checks below. Note what is slow, when it began, and whether it followed an app installation, software update, or settings change; this can help narrow down the relevant step without assuming any one event caused it.
Check storage before deleting anything
Low free space can affect performance, but platform guidance is not a diagnosis for every phone. Google says an Android phone can start having issues when less than 10% of its storage is free. Apple recommends keeping at least 1 GB free on iPhone and iPad to avoid slowdowns.

Check an Android phone
Open Settings and look for Storage; the exact path and labels vary by manufacturer and Android version. Review what is using space before removing personal files, and back up anything important first. Google’s Android storage guidance distinguishes clearing an app’s cache, which removes temporary data, from clearing its storage, which permanently deletes that app’s data. Do not choose clear storage unless you understand what information may be lost.
Check an iPhone
Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Review Apple’s recommendations and large apps, then remove only items you no longer need or have safely backed up. Apple’s slow iPhone and iPad guidance gives the 1 GB recommendation.

Restart, then check updates
Restart the phone once and see whether the symptom changes. On Android, Google recommends checking performance after each troubleshooting step, which makes it easier to spot what helped. Next, check for Android system updates and app updates. Settings paths differ across Android phones; if the general instructions do not match your device, Google advises contacting the manufacturer for guidance on its version of Android. For app-specific problems, use Google’s troubleshooting steps for an installed Android app that isn’t working.

Safe mode temporarily disables downloaded apps. If the phone becomes responsive in safe mode, a downloaded app is likely involved; if the slowdown remains, those apps are less likely to be the explanation. The exact way to enter safe mode depends on the manufacturer and model, so use instructions for your specific phone rather than assuming one button sequence works on every Android device. Google’s safe mode instructions explain how to isolate problematic apps.

If safe mode improves performance, remove recently installed apps one at a time, checking the phone after each removal. This can identify a likely cause while avoiding a broad, unnecessary deletion of apps and data.
Handle apps and power settings appropriately
Android
Routinely closing every app is usually unnecessary. Google recommends force-stopping a particular app when it is not responding, rather than treating force-stop as a general speed fix. For app problems, Google’s app troubleshooting guidance covers steps such as restarting and updating.

iPhone
Apple says unnecessarily force-closing apps can make an iPhone slower because it must reload their data when they are opened again. Close an app if it is unresponsive, but do not swipe away every app as routine maintenance. Also check Settings > Battery for Low Power Mode: Apple says some features are disabled or work more slowly while it is on.

During Android troubleshooting, temporarily remove a case or external battery pack if it might obstruct a sensor or button. Google includes this check in its guidance for Android devices that restart or crash.

Use a factory reset only as a last resort
A factory reset removes apps and data. Before considering it, try the less destructive checks above and make a backup you have verified. Google warns that reinstalling a problematic app after a reset can bring the issue back. Its factory-reset guidance explains the data-loss implications.
What “LG sucks” does—and does not—tell you
The complaint does not establish the phone’s model, Android version, carrier, storage, battery condition, or symptom pattern. It therefore cannot show that LG phones as a group are slow or that a particular component has failed. If it is an LG phone, find the model and software details in Settings > About phone, if that screen is accessible. Use those details to find model-specific instructions: LG menus and features differ across devices and software versions, so instructions for an older model should not be assumed to apply to yours.
For a useful diagnosis, note the model, Android version, available storage, whether offline tasks are slow, and when the problem began. If the phone remains slow after the applicable checks, those details will help the manufacturer or a repair professional determine what to investigate.
