iFixit ended its Samsung collaboration starting in June 2024 because it said parts pricing and supply terms made local repair difficult to run as a business, while glued-together assemblies could push repair costs high enough that customers chose replacement instead. Samsung self-repair did not disappear: iFixit said it would keep selling Samsung parts and kits, and Samsung directed customers to SamsungParts.com for qualified products.
Why did iFixit end its Samsung partnership?
On May 23, 2024, iFixit announced that the collaboration would end beginning in June. The change meant iFixit would stop serving as Samsung’s designated third-party distributor of parts and tools and would no longer work directly with Samsung on new repair manuals. It also said it would remove the limit of seven Samsung parts per repair shop per quarter. Existing iFixit repair information would remain available. iFixit’s announcement described a mismatch between the companies’ approach to repair.
iFixit said it could not obtain parts for local repair shops at prices and quantities that made commercial sense. It also criticized Galaxy devices that remained heavily glued together: when a battery or screen was sold pre-glued to other components, the customer could have to buy a larger, more expensive assembly than the failed part alone. iFixit said that cost could lead consumers to replace a device rather than repair it. The statements explain iFixit’s rationale; they are not an audited comparison of repair costs or a measured estimate of how often repairs failed.

Is Samsung self-repair still available?
Yes, though the route and availability depend on the model and region. Samsung originally announced its self-repair collaboration with iFixit as a way to provide repair information, tools and authentic components for selected Galaxy devices. Samsung later said the program covered nearly 50 models across its portfolio. Samsung’s 2023 expansion announcement described that wider coverage.
After the breakup, Samsung directed customers to SamsungParts.com, powered by Encompass, for Samsung-certified parts, tools and information for qualified products, according to a report quoting Samsung’s response. Check the exact device model and regional eligibility there before ordering; program coverage does not establish that every Galaxy device or part is available in every market.

Can you still buy Samsung parts and kits from iFixit?
Yes. iFixit said it would continue to sell Samsung parts and repair kits after ending the direct collaboration. It said it would source OEM parts when available and label original and aftermarket options clearly. It also planned to continue Samsung teardown coverage, while directing limited in-house guide-writing capacity toward other manufacturers. Its announcement additionally said more than 10,000 new parts had been added to its catalog in 2024; that figure describes catalog additions, not Samsung-specific inventory or guaranteed availability for a particular phone.
For a Galaxy screen or battery kit, search by the exact model number on iFixit and SamsungParts.com rather than relying on a family name such as “Galaxy S.” Before checkout, compare these details:

- Part type: Confirm whether the listing is OEM/original or aftermarket, and whether the description identifies the supplier.
- Exact compatibility: Match the model number and, where relevant, regional variant; similar model names do not guarantee interchangeable parts.
- Assembly contents: Check whether a battery or screen is sold alone or pre-attached to a frame or other components. A bundled assembly can cost more but may simplify some replacement steps.
- Repair support: Verify that a suitable guide and required tools are available for that specific model and repair.
- Purchase terms: Read the seller’s warranty and return policy, and confirm regional shipping and inventory. Availability, seller identity and compatibility can change.
iFixit’s explanation establishes why it ended the direct deal, but it does not provide a price-by-price comparison proving which seller is cheaper. Nor does the partnership announcement establish a repair success rate. Compare current listings and policies for the part you need rather than assuming one route is universally less expensive.

iFixit said the quarterly cap of seven Samsung parts per repair shop would be removed when the collaboration ended. The end of the agreement also ended direct joint work on new manuals, but did not mean iFixit’s existing Samsung repair information would vanish. For a particular repair, check that the available guide matches the exact device and part, and confirm that the necessary component is in stock through the seller you intend to use.
