Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) moved its headquarters to San Jose in 2018, following an earlier plan to put the headquarters in Santa Clara. The San Jose move was not permanent: HPE announced in December 2020 that it would relocate its headquarters to the Houston area. Its FY2025 Form 10-K identifies its global headquarters in Spring, Texas.
Why did HPE move its headquarters to San Jose?
In March 2018, HPE announced that it would move its headquarters and about 1,000 employees to San Jose. The announcement followed an earlier plan to move the headquarters to nearby Santa Clara. The announcement establishes the move and its scale, but does not provide a specific business rationale for choosing San Jose.
The key distinction is between HPE’s corporate headquarters and its regional technology presence. When HPE later announced the Houston relocation, it said San Jose would remain a technology and innovation hub; the headquarters move did not mean HPE was abandoning all Bay Area operations.
When did HPE move its headquarters from San Jose?
In December 2020, HPE announced that it would relocate its headquarters from San Jose to the Houston, Texas, area. The company opened its new Houston-area headquarters campus in April 2022.

HPE’s FY2025 Form 10-K lists its principal executive offices, including its global headquarters, in Spring, Texas. So San Jose is the site of a past headquarters move and remains a technology and innovation hub, while the company’s current global headquarters is in Spring.
