Find the point where the event disappears: Google Calendar on the web, the Calendar app on your phone, or the Android Auto screen. Verify the event’s account and calendar first, then repair phone-side sync. If the event is visible on the phone but absent in Android Auto, review Calendar permission and Google Calendar’s Share Google Calendar data with other apps setting. There is no documented, universal Android Auto calendar switch that fixes every phone, account, car, and app version.

Use the three-screen check before changing settings

Android Auto can only display calendar data that is available through the phone. A missing appointment may therefore be an account problem, a hidden or unsynced calendar, a permission problem, or Android Auto’s handling of a particular calendar type. Test the same event in this order:

  1. Google Calendar on the web: sign in to the account you expect to use and check whether the event exists there.
  2. Google Calendar on the phone: open the app and confirm that the event is present, on the expected calendar, and visible.
  3. Android Auto: connect the phone and check whether the event appears in the car interface.

The first screen that lacks the event identifies the layer to repair. If it is missing on the web, focus on the account or event itself. If it is on the web but not on the phone, repair synchronization. If it is on the phone but not in Android Auto, examine Calendar access and data sharing before reinstalling anything.

Why an event can be missing from Android Auto

The event belongs to another account or calendar

Google Calendar can show several accounts and calendar types at once. An appointment saved to a different Google account, a work or school account, a shared calendar, or a device-only calendar may not be available to the account or app that Android Auto is using. Google notes that an event added to a calendar not associated with the expected Google Account may not appear in the Calendar app or at calendar.google.com.

Open the event and inspect its Calendar field. Do not rely on the event title or color: two calendars can have similar names. Confirm the account owner and whether the calendar is primary, secondary, shared, organizational, or local to the device. If the event is on the wrong calendar, edit it and move it to the calendar that is synchronized with the account you use on the phone.

The calendar is hidden, even though it is synchronized

Google Calendar has separate controls for visibility and synchronization. A calendar can be synchronized to the device while its checkbox is cleared in the Calendar app, or it can be visible in the interface without current account synchronization. Android’s Calendar Provider likewise treats a calendar’s VISIBLE and SYNC_EVENTS states as separate values.

Phone-side synchronization has not completed

Android Auto does not independently download every appointment from Google’s servers. If the phone has not received the change, the car cannot display it. New events, edits, and changes to a calendar can take time to arrive after synchronization is enabled.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Another app cannot read the phone’s calendar data

Android exposes calendar information through Calendar Provider. An app must have Calendar permission, and Google Calendar has a separate control named Share Google Calendar data with other apps. Google describes that control as determining whether Calendar data is accessible through Calendar Provider to apps that you have already granted Calendar permission.

This setting is a phone-to-app boundary, not a guarantee that every Android Auto build will show every calendar. Android Auto versions, phone manufacturers, account types, and vehicle implementations can differ.

The event was generated from Gmail

Flight, hotel, delivery, and other messages can produce calendar entries through Events from Gmail. These events have their own controls, including Google’s smart-features setting for the account. Google says Events from Gmail is off by default in the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. A Gmail-derived item can therefore be absent even when ordinary manually created events synchronize normally.

Step 1: verify the account and calendar that own the event

  1. Open the event in the Google Calendar app.
  2. Tap the event’s edit option and read the Calendar field, including the account shown with it.
  3. Compare that account with the account you use for Google Calendar on the web and on the phone.
  4. Open the same account in a browser and check whether the event is present at calendar.google.com.
  5. If the event exists only on the device or under another account, recreate or move it to the synchronized calendar you intend to use.

For a work or school appointment, the organization may control sharing or mobile synchronization. A shared calendar can also be visible to you without being configured for the account currently used by the phone. Resolve ownership and access before troubleshooting Android Auto.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 2: make the calendar visible in Google Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar on the phone.
  2. Tap the three-line menu in the upper-left corner.
  3. Find the relevant account and calendar in the calendar list.
  4. Turn on its checkbox or color indicator so events from that calendar are displayed.

This makes events visible in the app; it does not prove that the calendar is synchronized. Leave the app open for a moment and look for the event on the correct date. If it is still absent, continue with account synchronization rather than repeatedly toggling visibility.

Step 3: repair Google Calendar synchronization on the phone

Check connectivity and the app version

  • Confirm that the phone has a working Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection.
  • Update Google Calendar from the phone’s app store if an update is available.
  • Disable any battery, data, or background-activity restriction that prevents Calendar from checking the account, if your phone manufacturer provides such a restriction.

Check account-level synchronization

Android’s labels differ by version and manufacturer. Look for an equivalent of Settings > Passwords and accounts, Settings > Accounts, or Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts. Select the Google account, open Account sync, and make sure Calendar synchronization is enabled. Use Sync now if that option is offered.

On some phones, the path is exposed through Settings > Google > All services > Settings for Google apps > Google Calendar sync. The exact label is less important than finding the account’s Calendar toggle and confirming that it is on.

Check the individual calendar’s Sync setting

In Google Calendar, open the menu, choose Settings, select the account, and open the calendar’s settings. If an individual Sync switch is available, turn it on. Not every Calendar version exposes the same controls; when the switch is absent, use the account-level sync control in Android settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Refresh manually and allow time for the change

Return to the main Calendar view and pull down to refresh. Leave the phone connected to the internet and wait for the account to complete synchronization. Then close and reopen the event. A change made seconds ago may not be available to another app immediately.

Check storage before taking any destructive action

Google states: “When your device runs out of storage, the Calendar app stops syncing.” Check Settings > Storage and free space if the phone is nearly full. Also check whether Google Calendar reports an account or synchronization error.

Clearing Calendar’s storage is a last resort, not a routine fix. Google warns that event data that has not synchronized to Google Calendar on the web can be lost. Before clearing storage, open the web calendar and verify that every important event is present there. If an event exists only on the phone, export, copy, or otherwise preserve it first, or accept the risk that it may be deleted. After clearing data, add the account again and allow synchronization to rebuild the local calendar.

Step 4: grant the relevant app access to calendar data

Review Android Calendar permission

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy, Security and privacy, or Permission manager, depending on the phone.
  3. Choose Calendar.
  4. Review the apps listed as allowed or denied and grant Calendar access to the app that needs to read the events.

Some Android versions instead use Settings > Apps > [app name] > Permissions > Calendar. The relevant app name and available choices vary. If Android Auto itself is not listed, do not infer that granting a different app’s permission will solve the problem; identify which installed calendar or vehicle app is requesting the data.

Enable Google Calendar data sharing with other apps

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Open the main menu and choose Settings.
  3. Open General.
  4. Find Share Google Calendar data with other apps and enable it if you want permitted apps to access Calendar Provider data.

Google documents that this setting controls whether Calendar data is accessible through Calendar Provider to apps that have Calendar permission. Turning it off can prevent other apps from reading or notifying about events. It is not documented as a universal Android Auto switch, so treat it as a boundary check rather than a guaranteed fix.

After changing permission or data sharing, disconnect and reconnect Android Auto. Check the phone’s Calendar first; if the event disappeared there, return to the synchronization steps.

Step 5: check Gmail-created events separately

  1. Open Google Calendar and go to Settings.
  2. Find Events from Gmail and review whether it is enabled.
  3. Check the Google Account’s smart-features or personalization setting that controls automatic event creation from Gmail.
  4. Confirm that the message is in the same account whose calendar you are checking.

Regional rules matter. Google says Events from Gmail is off by default in the EEA, Japan, Switzerland, and the UK. If a reservation or delivery never became a Calendar event, Android Auto has nothing to display. Create a normal calendar event as a test; if that test appears while the Gmail-derived item does not, focus on the Gmail setting and account policy.

Use a controlled test to isolate calendar type

When the original event has unusual sharing or ownership, create a temporary event on the phone’s primary Google calendar. Give it a distinctive title and a time several minutes in the future. Confirm that it appears on the web, then in the phone app, and finally in Android Auto while the vehicle is parked.

If the test event follows all three screens but the original does not, the connection is probably functioning and the difference is the original event’s account, calendar type, sharing policy, or Gmail origin. If neither event reaches Android Auto while both are visible on the phone, concentrate on permission, Calendar Provider sharing, and the Android Auto/app version rather than editing the original appointment.

What Android Auto’s official guidance does—and does not—establish

Google’s general Android Auto help explains compatible apps and directs users to app-specific support when an individual app misbehaves. It does not provide a complete, universal Calendar troubleshooting flow or promise that every account and calendar type will appear on every car display.

That means advice such as “turn on one hidden Android Auto calendar switch,” “reinstall Android Auto and every event will return,” or “all shared calendars are supported” is too broad. Older community discussions may describe a different interface or a problem in an earlier Android Auto release; they are not proof of a current, universal remedy. Use the phone model, Android release, Google Calendar version, Android Auto version, account type, and vehicle system as part of the diagnosis.

Safe recovery order

Use this order when you need the least disruptive path:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Verify the event’s account and calendar on the phone and web.
  2. Make the calendar visible in Google Calendar.
  3. Enable account and individual-calendar synchronization where available.
  4. Refresh Calendar and check connectivity and storage.
  5. Review Android Calendar permission and Google Calendar’s data-sharing setting.
  6. Check Events from Gmail for automatically generated appointments.
  7. Disconnect and reconnect Android Auto, then repeat the three-screen check.
  8. Only after confirming that important events exist online, consider clearing Calendar storage or reinstalling an app.

Avoid deleting the event, removing the account, or clearing app data while an appointment exists only locally. Those actions can destroy the very copy you are trying to recover.

When the problem is probably version- or vehicle-specific

If ordinary events on the primary Google calendar appear on the web and phone, Calendar permission is allowed, data sharing is enabled, and a controlled test still does not appear in Android Auto, the remaining issue may be implementation-specific. Record the phone’s Android version, Google Calendar version, Android Auto version, vehicle make and infotainment version, account type, and the exact calendar type that fails.

Use that information when contacting the vehicle or app developer. State whether the event is visible on the web and phone, whether a primary-calendar test works, and whether the failure affects all events or only shared, work, secondary, or Gmail-generated items. Those details are more useful than reporting simply that “the calendar is missing.”

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing visibility with sync: checking a calendar in the menu does not prove that its account data is synchronized.
  • Testing only the car screen: always compare the web calendar and phone app first.
  • Assuming the default account: event colors and titles do not identify the owning account.
  • Clearing storage too early: unsynced local events may be lost.
  • Assuming Gmail events are ordinary events: regional and account settings can suppress automatic creation.
  • Expecting one universal Android Auto control: official guidance does not establish a single switch that covers every device and calendar type.
  • Changing several settings at once: make one change, refresh, and repeat the three-screen check so you know which layer changed.
