Facebook keeps showing you Reels because its recommendations are personalized: your activity and feedback help shape what it ranks, and some Reels may also appear with social context, such as a friend liking them. To influence what you see, open an unwanted Reel’s three-dot menu and tap Not Interested or, if that is the label shown, Show Less. These signals can change recommendations, but they do not guarantee that a topic—or all recommended Reels—will disappear.
Why does Facebook keep showing me Reels?
Reels are recommended content, not just videos from accounts you follow. Meta says interactions with content across Facebook and Instagram help shape recommendations. Its October 2025 announcement also says Facebook’s recommendation engine is designed to learn interests and surface newer content; tapping Not Interested on a Reel sends a signal the engine can respond to. Your own viewing and other interactions are not the only possible explanation. A Reel may be accompanied by context indicating that a friend liked it, though not every recommendation is guaranteed to show such a label. Meta described these social cues in its May 2, 2023 explanation of Reels recommendations.
Meta has also announced other signals that can affect personalization. It said that, starting December 16, 2025, interactions with Meta AI would be used to personalize content and ad recommendations in most regions. In June 2026, Meta described using activity that businesses share with it to personalize non-ad content, including Feed content, and announced an Activity from other businesses control. Meta said that change would take effect in the US and some other countries the following month, with further countries to follow. How do I stop seeing Reels like this?
- Open the Reel you do not want to see more often.
- Tap its three-dot menu. The exact placement can differ by app version.
- Choose Not Interested if that option appears. If your menu instead offers Show Less, select it.
These are preference signals, not a block. Meta’s current October 2025 announcement names Not Interested. In its May 2023 description of Show Less, Meta said the choice temporarily lowers the ranking of that Reel and similar Reels. The older label and documented ranking behavior should not be taken to mean every app version or region will show the same menu.
How can I encourage Facebook to recommend more relevant Reels?
On a Reel you want more of, open the three-dot menu and choose Show More if it is available. Meta’s May 2023 explanation says Show More temporarily raises the ranking of that Reel and similar ones. Meta also says that saving Reels can help fine-tune recommendations. Neither action guarantees that Facebook will show only that kind of video. What broader Facebook controls can I check?
For content recommendations, Meta points people to Feed controls; for advertising, it points to Ads Preferences. These address broader settings rather than feedback on one specific Reel. The available settings and their labels can vary, and Meta’s public guidance does not establish one universal Settings path for every device and region.
If you see Activity from other businesses in your controls, it relates to Meta’s announced use of activity businesses share with it for non-ad personalization. Meta described a phased regional rollout beginning in the US and some other countries in July 2026, followed by more countries. Do not assume the control is available to every account.

What should I expect after changing my preferences?
Feedback influences what Facebook ranks; it does not promise an immediate reset, a permanent block on a subject, or removal of all recommended videos. Menu wording and placement can also change between app versions. Facebook Help’s indexed result says the Videos tab was renamed the Reels tab in June 2025, but that dated note is not a guarantee of identical navigation everywhere.
