Siri opens because the iPhone interprets a press and hold of the Home button as a voice-assistant command. To stop it, turn off Press and Hold to Speak in Accessibility settings. On an iPhone 8 or earlier, go to Settings > Accessibility > Home Button > Press and Hold to Speak, then select Off. [Apple Support]
Why a Home-button press opens Siri
On iPhones with a Home button, Siri is designed to respond when you press and hold the button. If you intend to tap but hold it a little longer, the phone may treat that as a request to open Siri rather than a regular button press. Apple identifies press-and-hold voice activation as a button accessibility setting. [Apple iPhone User Guide]
Turn off Siri activation from the Home button
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility, then Home Button.
- Tap Press and Hold to Speak.
- Select Off.
This setting applies to the Home or Side button’s press-and-hold behavior. Turning it off prevents Siri or Classic Voice Control from responding to a held Home button, but it does not disable every way of activating Siri. [Apple Support]
Check which button your iPhone has
The Home-button path applies to iPhone 8 or earlier. iPhone X and later models use a Side button rather than a Home button; for those phones, look under Settings > Accessibility > Side Button for Press and Hold to Speak. If Siri opens while a headset is connected
If activation happens while a headset is plugged in—and not specifically when you hold the Home button—the headset connection may be a separate trigger. Apple advises checking that the headset is fully inserted. A loose connection, damaged cable, or moisture on the connector or remote can cause unexpected Siri or Classic Voice Control activation. If it continues, try a different headset. This does not establish that a headset is responsible when the symptom is tied to pressing the Home button. [Apple Support]
Use AssistiveTouch if the physical button is difficult to use
AssistiveTouch is a built-in accessibility feature that can perform actions such as going to the Home Screen or activating Siri. To enable it, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch. If the setting is missing or named differently
Settings labels can vary with iOS version. Apple says Siri preferences may appear under Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri, depending on the software version. If the button settings do not match the steps above, check your iOS version and the corresponding Accessibility section for your button type. [Apple Support]
