If bookmarks seem to have disappeared from Chrome on your Android phone, first check the bookmark folders and search the list. Then verify that Chrome is using the Google Account where the bookmarks were saved, and look for a copy on another device. Recovery depends on whether a copy still exists: Google does not promise that deleted bookmarks, or bookmarks saved only on a device that is no longer available, can be restored.
1. Check Chrome’s bookmark list and folders

Open Chrome on your Android phone.

Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Bookmarks.

Open the relevant folder. If you are in the wrong folder, use the Back button to move up and check other folders.

Use Search your bookmarks to look for the page by name or address.
A bookmark moved into another folder can appear to be missing when you are viewing only one part of the list. Google’s Chrome bookmark instructions for Android cover folder navigation, search, editing, and deletion. Menu wording or placement may differ between Chrome versions.

2. Check which Google Account Chrome is using
Chrome bookmarks saved to a Google Account may be available on other devices signed in to that same account. If Chrome was signed out when you saved a bookmark, Google says it was saved only on that device. So an account change, sign-out, or use of a different account can make bookmarks appear to vanish from the phone even though the original device may still have them.

In Chrome, tap More, then open Settings.

Check the account shown in Chrome and confirm it is the one you used when the bookmarks were present.

If you use more than one Google Account, check each relevant account rather than assuming bookmarks moved between them.

3. Check what Chrome saves and whether a passphrase is needed
Chrome lets you choose which information to save to your Google Account. In Chrome, open More > Settings, tap the account name, and review the Chrome account or sync settings and the information selected to save. Available labels can vary by version.
If you set a custom Chrome passphrase, Google says you need it when signing in on a new device to access the protected information. Not having the passphrase can explain why account data is not appearing as expected on another device. Changing a save or sync setting now does not recreate bookmarks that were already deleted or that were never saved to the account.

4. Look for a copy on another device before changing anything
Check other phones, tablets, or computers where you used Chrome with the same Google Account. Google documents access to saved Chrome information on devices signed in to that account; its Chrome sign-in help for Android also describes signing in and accessing saved information across devices.
If the bookmarks are still visible on another device, leave that copy intact while you investigate the account and settings. Do not sign out, clear Chrome data, or reset sync on the device holding the visible copy: the official guidance does not establish that such changes provide a recovery method, and they may complicate your troubleshooting.

5. Is an Android backup likely to restore Chrome bookmarks?
Do not count on a phone backup to bring them back. Google’s Android backup and restore guidance describes general backup categories, including apps and app data, but warns that not all apps back up or restore all data. It does not specifically promise that Chrome bookmarks are included. A factory reset or restoring an Android backup is therefore not a reliable bookmark-recovery step.
6. What if the bookmarks are still missing?
Google says a bookmark deleted through Chrome’s documented deletion action cannot be recovered through that action. The official help pages do not describe a general way to restore bookmarks that were deleted, never saved to the Google Account, and are absent from every other device.
Chrome supports up to 100,000 bookmarks in a Google Account, according to Google’s account-data help. That is a capacity limit, not a recovery guarantee. If you have checked the folders, account, and other devices and no copy remains, the documented sources do not establish a dependable recovery route. Avoid treating sync resets, phone restores, or third-party recovery apps as guaranteed fixes.
