Bose has ended direct sales of the Wave Music System IV, but it has not publicly explained why. Bose’s current product page says the system is no longer available to buy on Bose.com and that the company continues to support it and its owners. Bose Canada lists the IV’s sales period as 2015–2023. Those facts establish when sales ended in that region—not the reason behind Bose’s decision.
What Bose has confirmed about the discontinuation
Bose’s product page says the Wave Music System IV is no longer available for purchase on Bose.com and that Bose is still supporting the system and its owners. Bose Canada’s support listing records the IV as sold from 2015 to 2023. The latter dates are from a Canadian support record, so they should not be treated as a universal sales timeline for every market.
The available official pages do not state why Bose discontinued the IV. They do not confirm explanations such as declining CD use, production costs, component availability, sales performance, or a change to a particular replacement. Without a direct explanation from Bose, the cause remains unannounced.

Bose’s product history traces the family back to the Acoustic Wave Music System, originally released in 1984. The company dates the Wave Radio and Wave Radio/CD to 1993, the Wave Music System to 2004, and the Wave Music System IV to 2015. Bose describes the IV as the successor to its predecessor.
#1 Best Overall
- Lifelike, room-filling sound with breakthrough waveguide technology
- Fresh, updated design
- CD/MP3 CD player; advanced AM/FM tuner; text display of song information
- Dual alarms, touch-top on/off/snooze, slim remote with 12 presets
- Wireless network compatibility: 802.11 b/g/n
These dates refer to distinct products, not one uninterrupted model. For example, Bose lists the separate Wave SoundTouch Music System as sold from 2013 to 2015; it is not the standard Wave Music System IV.
What the Wave Music System IV does
The IV is a radio-and-disc system, not simply a wireless speaker. Bose’s owner’s guide documents these built-in features:

Bose’s guide describes two speakers connected to two 26-inch tapered waveguides. That is the manufacturer’s description of its design, not independent comparative testing.

What continued support means for owners
Bose’s product page says it continues to support the Wave IV and its owners. Bose Canada’s support listing provides manuals, help articles, a repair-or-replace route, and accessory listings. These establish ways to seek help; they do not guarantee that every repair, part, or service is available indefinitely or in every country.

One specific limitation concerns software updates: Bose UK’s firmware article says the Wave IV update is performed using a CD, and that the update CD is no longer available. This is a limitation on that update method, not evidence that all support has ended.
Bose’s owner’s guide directs owners to qualified service personnel for repairs and says only qualified personnel should adjust or repair the internal CD player. Use Bose’s support or repair route, or a qualified technician, rather than opening the system to work on the internal laser player.

Accessories and buying a used Wave IV
Bose Canada lists a Wave Music System IV remote and a PAL FM antenna adapter. The PAL designation is regional, so check that an accessory matches both the exact system model and the radio or connector requirements in your location. Listings on a regional support page do not establish current availability everywhere.
If you are considering a used unit, treat its condition and included accessories as part of the purchase decision. This practical checklist is not a Bose inspection protocol:
Best Value
- Works with Alexa for voice control (Alexa device sold separately) ; Wireless network compatibility: 802.11 b/g/n
- Enjoy all your music easily: online music services, Internet radio, your stored music library, CDs and AM/FM radio
- Exclusive Bose waveguide speaker technology delivers lifelike, room filling sound; Supported audio formats: MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, Apple Lossless
- Wireless connection via your home Wi Fi network; also works with Bluetooth.
- One touch access to music services (Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora), Internet radio and music library playlists with six personalized presets on the remote or SoundTouch app. 8 foot (2.4 m) AC power cord. Power supply: 120V 50/60Hz 60W max
- Confirm the exact model; do not assume a SoundTouch model and a standard Wave IV have the same features or support history.
- Test the CD drive with a disc and check radio reception.
- Inspect the display and controls, and check that the remote and power cord are included and working.
- Ask about return terms and the seller’s description of the system’s condition.
Choosing a system if you need a replacement
The available official information does not identify a direct successor to the Wave Music System IV. Start with the listening sources you need rather than assuming another Bose product is equivalent:
- For discs and radio: Confirm that the candidate has a CD drive and AM/FM tuner. Do not assume a wireless speaker includes either.
- For external devices: Check for an AUX input if you rely on a wired connection.
- For wireless or streaming use: Verify the required Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, app, or streaming features and check the current service terms for any network-dependent functions.
- For a used Wave IV: Weigh the system’s disc-and-radio functions against the condition of the individual unit, available accessories, and repair options in your region.
Bose’s history and product pages support the timeline and current sales/support status discussed here: Bose Wave Music System IV, Bose Canada Wave Music System IV support, and Bose Wave system history. For setup and repair guidance, see the Wave Music System IV owner’s guide. The separate model records are on Bose’s pages for the Wave Music System and Wave SoundTouch Music System; the update-CD limitation is described in Bose’s Wave IV firmware support article.
