If contacts have vanished from your Samsung Galaxy, first check whether the Contacts app is hiding the account that holds them. If they were deleted, recovery depends on a surviving copy: Google recovery data, a Samsung Cloud backup, Samsung Contacts’ Recycle Bin, an old phone or Smart Switch backup, or an existing SIM or SD card. Samsung cannot recreate contacts when no copy remains.
First check whether the contacts are hidden
The Contacts app can show only one account at a time, making contacts stored elsewhere appear missing. Open Contacts, open its navigation menu, and select All contacts or the specific account where the records should be stored. Also confirm that the expected Google or Samsung account is signed in. Samsung identifies account display settings as a cause of apparent contact disappearance in its Galaxy contacts troubleshooting guide, updated June 18, 2026.
Recover contacts stored in a Google account
Sync the account to your Galaxy
If the contacts still exist in Google but are not appearing on the phone, connect to the internet and sync the correct account. Samsung UK gives this path: Contacts > Menu > Manage contacts > Sync contacts. Turn on the Google account, then tap Sync. The account must be the one that contains the contacts. Try Google Contacts recovery if they were deleted
On a computer, open Google Contacts and check Trash for recoverable entries. Samsung’s Gulf guidance also describes using Undo changes to restore Google contacts to a point within the preceding 30 days. This is a recovery window, not a promise that every deleted contact will be available: recovery depends on the account and the data Google still has. Follow Samsung’s current missing-contacts guidance for the described options.

Restore contacts from Samsung Cloud
If a Samsung Cloud backup contains the contacts, sign in to the Samsung account associated with that backup. On the Galaxy, go to Settings > Samsung account > Samsung Cloud > Restore data, choose the source device backup, select the relevant data, and confirm the restore. Menu names can vary by device. Samsung documents the restore workflow in its Samsung Cloud contacts guidance.
Samsung Cloud is not a route for contacts set up with a Google account: Samsung says those contacts and calendars are not synchronized through Samsung Cloud. Available Cloud options also vary by country, carrier, and model, so check what your device offers. See Samsung Singapore’s Samsung Cloud backup and restore notes.

Restore deleted contacts from Samsung Contacts’ Recycle Bin
If you deleted records in Samsung Contacts, open Contacts, open the navigation menu, choose Recycle Bin, select the contacts, and tap Restore. This works only for entries still available in that bin. Samsung’s June 2026 contacts guide describes these steps but does not state a retention period.

Transfer from a phone or Smart Switch backup
If the contacts remain on an old phone or in a usable Smart Switch backup, transfer or restore that data to the Galaxy. Smart Switch moves data that still exists in its source; it does not recreate records that have disappeared from every copy. Samsung’s backup and restore guide explains its transfer options.

Import from a SIM or SD card
Use this only if the card already holds the contacts. In Contacts, go to Manage contacts > Import or export contacts > Import, choose the source, select the contacts, then choose where to save them. Samsung notes that SIM cards are not designed for storage and have limited capacity; an import cannot recover contacts that were never saved to the card. Which recovery route should you try?

When contacts cannot be recovered
Check the account view, Google sync and recovery options, Samsung Cloud, the Contacts Recycle Bin, any old phone or Smart Switch backup, and cards that might already contain the records. If the contacts are absent from all of those surviving copies, the official Samsung instructions cited here do not provide a way to recreate them. Be cautious of recovery downloads that claim otherwise without identifying a source copy.
