Acxiom IT selected the name Ensono in January 2016 to present itself as an independent enterprise-infrastructure provider rather than an Acxiom division focused mainly on mainframe management. The rebrand accompanied a plan to increase capital spending, add sales and marketing capacity, and build cloud capabilities for customers running mixed environments.
What changed in January 2016
Acxiom IT became Ensono after a naming process that CRN reported lasted nearly five months. The process included interviews with employees, existing clients and prospective customers. The company had been purchased from Acxiom in July 2015 by Charlesbank Capital Partners and M/C Partners, making a distinct identity useful as the business established itself outside its former parent.
CRN described the name as a newly coined combination of the Zen concept “enso” and the Italian expression “in sogno.” That is the naming rationale reported by CRN, not an independent linguistic finding.
Then-CEO Jeff VonDeylen said the business had been “starved for resources and product.” The new identity was therefore more than a logo change: management presented it as a signal that the company would fund products, people and go-to-market capabilities beyond its traditional base.

Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
What Ensono planned to invest in
For 2016, the company plan reported by CRN called for a 40% increase in capital spending compared with 2015. The same plan projected a 25% decrease in EBITDA. Both figures were forward-looking company plans reported in 2016, not audited results or evidence of current spending.
VonDeylen summarized the approach to CRN this way: “We are going to spend money to get this platform and the right people.” In practical terms, that meant expanding the commercial organization, strengthening marketing, and investing in cloud technology and support systems.

He also told CRN, “We’re a $200 million company operating in a $100 billion industry; we can go and capture market share.” Those amounts are the CEO’s quoted comparison, not independently established market-size statistics.
The common support platform
A central technology project was a common ticketing and support system. The intended use case was a customer with several infrastructure types at once: a legacy mainframe, a private cloud and third-party hosting or public-cloud services such as AWS. A shared service-management layer would let Ensono coordinate incidents and requests across those environments instead of treating each platform as a separate operation.

Why cloud mattered to a former mainframe specialist
The strategic problem was not simply replacing mainframes. Large enterprises often retain mainframes for core workloads while adding private-cloud platforms and public-cloud services. Ensono’s proposed position was to operate across that combination, giving customers one managed-services partner while their architectures remained hybrid.
| Environment named in the coverage | Role in the strategy |
|---|---|
| Mainframe | Legacy enterprise operations and workloads that customers continued to run. |
| Private cloud | Customer-controlled or dedicated infrastructure managed alongside legacy systems. |
| Public cloud and hyperscaler services | Third-party platforms, including AWS, added to the same operating model. |
This was a services strategy: make Ensono responsible for operating a mixed estate, rather than requiring a customer to split mainframe, private-cloud and public-cloud support among unrelated providers.

How the offering expanded after the rebrand
Later CRN coverage described a combined mainframe, private-cloud and public-cloud offering and connected two acquisitions with specific cloud capabilities. These are historical descriptions from the period, not a definitive statement of Ensono’s exact service mix today.
Attenda
CRN linked the Attenda acquisition to managed AWS capability and experience with private-cloud platforms. In the historical strategy, that helped Ensono support customers moving workloads toward AWS without abandoning existing infrastructure.
Best Value
- Secure private cloud - Enjoy 100% data ownership and multi-platform access from anywhere
- Easy sharing and syncing - Safely access and share files and media from anywhere, and keep clients, colleagues and collaborators on the same page
- Automated Backup Protection - Set-and-forget backups for Macs, PCs and mobile devices to multiple destinations including cloud and external drives
- Home Security System - Record and monitor your property 24/7 with support for multiple IP cameras and remote viewing
- 2-Year Warranty - Reliable hardware backed by Synology's expert customer support team and ongoing software updates
Inframon
CRN linked the Inframon acquisition to Microsoft expertise and managed Azure services. Together with the Attenda capabilities, it broadened the cloud side of the portfolio beyond a single hyperscaler.
What the acquisitions did—and did not—prove
The acquisitions show how management was assembling skills for hybrid operations: mainframe expertise plus private-cloud, AWS and Azure services. They do not, by themselves, establish present-day product availability, customer outcomes or market share.

On its current About page, Ensono describes itself as a technology adviser and managed service provider. Timeline of the rebrand and investment plan
| Date | Event | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| July 2015 | Charlesbank Capital Partners and M/C Partners purchased the business from Acxiom, according to CRN. | Ownership changed before the standalone identity was announced. |
| January 12, 2016 | CRN reported the Acxiom IT-to-Ensono rebrand. | The company introduced a broader enterprise-infrastructure narrative. |
| 2016 plan | Capital spending was planned to rise 40% from 2015, while EBITDA was planned to fall 25%. | Management accepted near-term profitability pressure to fund people, products and infrastructure. |
| 2017-era follow-up | CRN described the mainframe, private-cloud and public-cloud combination and discussed Attenda and Inframon. | The original cloud-investment thesis was being extended through acquisitions. |
What the name change meant for customers
For customers, the practical promise was continuity across changing infrastructure. A company could retain a mainframe, add private-cloud capacity and use AWS or Azure while seeking one operating partner for monitoring, service tickets and managed support.
The rebrand also clarified the business’s intended market identity. Ensono was not presented as a consumer cloud application or a single-cloud reseller. It was positioned as an enterprise infrastructure operator attempting to combine legacy-system knowledge with newer cloud platforms.
