A Makita battery will power a Mellif tool only if that exact Mellif model supports the matching Makita battery platform. Mellif sells tools for different, non-interchangeable battery groups; its green group is the one it identifies as compatible with Makita batteries. Check the tool model before troubleshooting, then verify charge, seating, and visible contact condition. If the model is not confirmed compatible, or the battery or tool is hot or damaged, stop testing.
First confirm that the Mellif tool supports your Makita battery
Find the Mellif model number on the tool label, manual, or product listing. Confirm that the model explicitly supports Makita 18V batteries. Mellif says of its battery groups, “The color indicates battery compatibility. They are not interchangeable.” It identifies green batteries with its Makita-compatible tools, but color alone does not establish compatibility for every tool or product revision. Mellif’s battery and charger FAQ and its list of tools advertised as compatible with Makita 18V batteries are useful starting points; verify the exact model’s instructions.
Makita says its 18V LXT batteries are compatible within the LXT platform. That manufacturer statement describes Makita’s platform and does not confirm that a particular Mellif tool accepts a particular Makita battery. The title alone does not identify the tool model, battery model, or failure pattern, so it is not enough to diagnose the specific fault. Makita’s service FAQ provides its platform guidance.

Troubleshoot a confirmed compatible pairing
- Check the battery’s charge. Use its charge indicator, if present. If it is depleted, charge it only with a charger specified for that battery. Mellif says its replacement battery must be charged with the matching Mellif charger; do not assume a charger is interchangeable just because the pack fits a tool. Mellif’s replacement-battery listing gives its instructions and model-check reminder.
- Switch the tool off and reseat the battery. Remove the pack, then reinstall it without force. It should fit and latch as designed. A loose or unconnected adapter is one possible no-start cause in Makita’s adapter manual, but that is general guidance—not a Mellif-specific diagnostic chart. Makita’s PDC01 instruction manual covers that adapter.
- Inspect visible contacts. With the battery removed, look for obvious dirt or damage on accessible contacts. Do not bridge, probe, or short battery terminals, and do not use tools or liquids to clean contacts unless the product instructions say to do so.
- Isolate the likely fault only with known-compatible equipment. If available, test the Mellif tool with a known-good battery confirmed for that model, or test the suspect pack in a known-good compatible tool. If the problem follows the battery, the pack may be at fault; if it remains with the tool, the tool may need service. Do not use an unapproved adapter or modify the pack to make it fit.
- Stop if there is heat, damage, or abnormal behavior. Do not continue testing a hot or visibly damaged battery or tool. Makita’s manual advises allowing overheated equipment to cool and recommends authorized repair when a fault persists; follow the Mellif tool’s own instructions and service guidance as well.
When to replace a battery or seek service
Consider a replacement only after confirming that the tool supports that battery platform and troubleshooting indicates that the pack—not the tool—is the problem. Mellif describes its 18V 4.0Ah replacement battery as compatible with Makita-compatible Mellif tools and tells buyers to check the model. That is Mellif’s product claim, not independent test evidence. A replacement battery cannot fix a platform mismatch or a fault in the tool.

Mellif advertises some tools as compatible with Makita 18V batteries, while Makita describes compatibility among batteries in its own 18V LXT platform. Neither statement establishes that every Mellif tool accepts every Makita battery design, or that compatibility is unchanged across all product revisions. Confirm both the Mellif model and the battery type in the relevant instructions before use.

Makita’s warning about non-genuine or altered batteries concerns their use in Makita tools. It does not establish that a genuine Makita battery is inherently unsafe in a Mellif product. For Mellif use, rely on the Mellif tool’s own compatibility information and instructions.
