A GPU mining calculator can show high estimated revenue while the same setup loses money after electricity and other costs. But the specific figures in the headline—$171 a day and a $1.12 daily loss—cannot be verified without the calculator and settings that produced them. Treat them as an example of the gap between gross earnings and net profit, not as confirmed results for a particular GPU.
Why a calculator can show earnings while a miner loses money
“Earnings” may mean estimated mining revenue before electricity, not money left over after operating costs. A profit estimate subtracts at least the power bill; depending on the calculator and setup, it may also account for pool fees and other costs.
CalculatorMining describes daily profit as estimated coin revenue converted at market price minus electricity cost. Minerstat presents revenue, electricity, profit, and break-even as separate outputs. Those labels matter: a positive revenue figure is not proof of positive net profit.
What the $171 and −$1.12 figures establish—and what they do not
The calculator pages reviewed do not identify the GPU or hashrate, coin and algorithm, date, power draw, electricity rate, operating time, pool fee, or whether $171 was gross revenue or net profit. Without those inputs, the two figures cannot be reproduced or attributed to a particular calculator. They do not establish that a specific GPU earns $171 a day or that a specific setup loses $1.12 a day.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
To check the comparison, use the original calculation and confirm that both numbers refer to the same hardware, coin or algorithm, time period, currency, and operating assumptions. The gross-versus-net label is especially important: comparing gross revenue with a net loss can make the figures look contradictory when they describe different things.
How to calculate estimated daily mining profit
A useful simplified formula is:
Estimated daily net profit = estimated daily mining revenue − electricity cost − applicable fees and other operating costs.

For electricity, calculate power in kilowatts × operating hours × your electricity price per kilowatt-hour. For example, a rig drawing 1 kilowatt for 24 hours uses 24 kilowatt-hours; multiply that by your actual rate to estimate its daily electricity cost. This explains the calculation, but it does not reconstruct the headline’s figures.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse actual mining power draw where possible, rather than assuming the GPU’s advertised or maximum power draw is the whole computer’s consumption. CalculatorMining advises including system overhead and pool fees for a more accurate estimate. If you measure at the outlet, a plug-in electricity monitor reads the whole connected computer—not GPU-only draw—and says nothing about mining revenue.

Why calculator results differ or change
For a useful comparison, align the assumptions before comparing outputs:
- Hardware or hashrate: Use the same GPU, device count, or measured hashrate.
- Coin and algorithm: Different mining choices can produce different revenue estimates.
- Power draw and electricity rate: Enter the operating draw and your rate, including the rate’s currency and units.
- Operating time and uptime: A full-day estimate differs from one that accounts for downtime.
- Fees and output type: Check pool fees and whether the displayed number is revenue, profit, or break-even.
- Calculation time: Market price and network difficulty can change, so estimates from different dates may not match.
Minerstat warns that “Profitability changes with difficulty, price and power costs,” and says its data is provided as-is without warranty. A calculator output is an estimate based on its current data and entered assumptions, not a promise of future returns.

How to read current calculator examples
When checked on 2026-10-07 UTC, NiceHash’s GPU profitability page displayed estimated daily earnings of $1.03 for Nvidia H100, $0.94 for NVIDIA Tesla A100, and $0.86 for NVIDIA RTX 5080. These are that page’s dated estimates, not universal net-profit figures after an individual electricity bill, and they do not verify the headline’s $171 figure.

CalculatorMining’s illustrative results table also showed positive and negative daily profit examples under its stated sample assumptions, including $3.12 a day for Neoxa (NEOX) and −$0.63 a day for Ethereum Classic (ETC). Those provider examples are not independently audited returns or evidence about the headline’s calculation.
