Yes, you can now play P.T. on PC, but not out of the box. In October 2026, programmer Lorean Xavier made PT-PC public: a native Windows and Linux port of the 2014 PlayStation 4 teaser for Silent Hills. It does not include the game. You must supply your own P.T. game files from a PS4 release, and the project does not resolve how those files should be obtained.
What was released
PC Gamer reported on October 8, 2026 that Xavier, then 21, had made PT-PC public that week after working on it since 2024. The project is a PC program that runs natively on Windows and Linux. It is not an emulator, it is not a fork of the shadPS4 PS4 emulator, and it is not a fan remake built from scratch with new assets. PC Gamer’s account says Xavier used emulated behavior as a reference while building it.
P.T. first appeared on PlayStation Network in 2014 as a playable teaser for Silent Hills, a planned reboot associated with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. After Kojima and Konami fell out and Silent Hills was canceled, P.T. was delisted in early 2015, according to PC Gamer’s history of the game. The teaser then survived mainly through emulation and preserved PS4 hard drives, which is the gap PT-PC is trying to fill.
Native port, emulator or remake: what the difference means for you
The distinction matters because it answers two different questions: what code runs, and where the game’s content comes from.
#1 Best Overall
- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
- An emulator runs the PS4’s own software on a PC, so the original game code and data run inside a simulated console.
- A fan remake is a new game built to look and play like the original. Earlier PC recreations of P.T. are the reference point here.
- A native port, in the project’s own description, rebuilds the game logic in C++ from observed behavior and renders it with Vulkan. The levels, models, textures, audio, scripts and cutscenes are then read at runtime from the PS4 files you supply.
In practice, PT-PC sits between a remake and an emulator. The code is a new implementation, but the content is not recreated: it is loaded from your copy at launch. That is why the project’s README says the repository and installer contain no game data.
| Approach | Needs your own P.T. files? | What runs | Fidelity evidence | Platforms and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original PS4 playback | You need a PS4 and the game | The console’s own software | Original release | PS4 hardware |
| Emulation | Yes, the game files are used by the emulator | A simulated PS4 running the game’s software | Varies by emulator and title; not covered by the sources reviewed here | Depends on the emulator; not stated for this comparison |
| Fan remake | No | A new game made to resemble P.T. | Xavier says earlier PC remakes missed details such as lighting, atmosphere, interactions and event behavior; this is his judgment | Varies by remake; not stated here |
| PT-PC native port | Yes, your own PS4 game files | Rebuilt C++ game logic with a Vulkan renderer, reading content at runtime | Developer documentation and a quoted impression from a P.T. dataminer; no independent code audit or performance testing reported | Windows 10 or 11 x64, or Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer; Vulkan 1.3 capable GPU and driver |
What you need to run it
The project’s README is the most detailed source on requirements. Check it before downloading, because it is a live document and may change.
Hardware and operating system
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, or Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer.
- A GPU and driver that support Vulkan 1.3.
- Optional ray-traced effects require Vulkan ray queries.
- DLSS upscaling requires a GeForce RTX card. FSR and XeSS are described as available on recent GPUs.
Game files
- You must use your own P.T. game files. The project supplies none.
- The author says the US release, CUSA01127, is the version the project was built and tested with.
- European and Japanese releases install with a note, but the author says he has not seen their data himself, so compatibility there is unverified.
- The README says a store PKG cannot be used as-is.
Microphone
One section of the game uses the microphone to hear a spoken word. A configured keyboard key can stand in for that word, so a microphone is optional. Any USB microphone would work for the voice portion, but the project does not recommend a specific model.

Installing it
The project ships through a release installer or a portable zip. On Windows, run the installer or extract the zip, then launch the game from the folder it creates and point it to your P.T. files when prompted. The README does not describe every prompt in detail, so follow its instructions for your release.

On a Steam Deck, the README directs users to install from desktop mode and add the program as a non-Steam game through Steam’s library options. It states that the project runs on SteamOS. These are the project’s own documentation claims; the sources reviewed for this article report no independent Steam Deck testing.
Mouse and keyboard are supported, as are gamepads. Button prompts follow the input type you used last.
Why Xavier built it
In PC Gamer’s interview, Xavier says he wanted the version he would have wanted as a child. He also says the idea that a highly influential game could become practically unplayable bothered him:
“The idea that something so influential could eventually become practically unplayable never sat right with me.”

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
He judged earlier PC recreations as falling short on lighting, atmosphere, interactions and event behavior. Those are his judgments, not a measured comparison.
How faithful is it? Who is saying so
The strongest praise comes from Lance McDonald, an Australian P.T. dataminer quoted by PC Gamer. His social post, dated October 7, 2026, reads:
“This is incredible. Unlike the previous decade of fan ‘recreations’ of P.T. for PC which always seemed to miss important but minor details, this is (as far as I can tell?) a 1:1 port of the entire codebase. It creates all of the undocumented behavior I know of perfectly.”
Recommended Free Tools
McDonald’s wording is hedged: “as far as I can tell” and the behavior he knows of. This is an informed impression from someone who knows the game’s undocumented behavior well. It is not an independent code comparison, and no such comparison is reported in the sources reviewed here.

How Xavier used AI
PC Gamer also quotes Xavier on AI-assisted development:
“I think there’s an important distinction between using AI as a development tool and blindly relying on it to create an entire project you don’t understand.”
He says he uses AI to help debug and work through problems, but he remains responsible for architecture and implementation decisions.
Extras and default behavior
PT-PC adds PC-oriented options that the original never had. According to the README, these include display modes, arbitrary resolutions, upscaling, frame generation, selectable graphics settings, ray-traced effects on compatible hardware, photo mode, free camera, a loop browser, a museum of discovered content, Game+, a speedrun timer, an experimental third-person view, experimental VR support and mod support.
Best Value

The default look is the PS4 look. The README says the extras are disabled or set to preserve original behavior unless you turn them on. If you want to play it as close to the 2014 teaser as possible, leave those options alone.
Legal and ownership limits
The project’s README says PT-PC is unaffiliated with and not endorsed by Konami or Kojima Productions and that it contains none of their assets. That covers what the project ships. It does not cover how you obtain the game files it needs, and PC Gamer’s report does not say the project resolves the legal questions around that. If you are unsure about your rights to the files you use, check local law and the terms that came with your copy before you install.
What is still unknown
- Compatibility with European and Japanese releases is unverified by the author.
- Performance on specific hardware is not independently reported. The README describes the feature set, not benchmark results.
- The project is new, and requirements, release status and compatibility notes may change. Check the README and the release page before installing.
If you already have a legitimate P.T. copy and a Vulkan 1.3 capable PC or Steam Deck, PT-PC is the most faithful route to the 2014 teaser that the sources reviewed here describe. Keep the default settings, follow the README’s file requirements, and treat the fidelity claims as the developer’s and early observers’ impressions until independent testing appears.
