Reuters reported on April 3, 2025, that Amazon and a consortium led by OnlyFans founder Tim Stokely were among the parties interested in TikTok as a U.S. deadline approached. That April 5, 2025 deadline is past, and the report did not establish that either proposal was accepted. In January 2026, TikTok announced a different outcome: a majority-American-owned U.S. joint venture.
What Amazon and Tim Stokely’s group proposed in April 2025
Reuters reported that Amazon had sent a letter to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressing interest in TikTok. A U.S. administration official confirmed the letter to Reuters; Amazon declined to comment. TikTok and ByteDance did not immediately respond to the report.
Reuters also reported that Zoop, a company run by Stokely, had partnered with a cryptocurrency foundation to submit a late-stage plan to bid. The report described interest and a bid plan, not an accepted offer or completed transaction. The story was published April 3, two days before the then-current April 5 deadline.
