Who makes HOTO power tools?
HOTO identifies itself as an independent brand founded in 2016. Its company page names Lidan Liu as founder and CEO. HOTO’s account of its early history says its first product was a precision screwdriver set designed for Xiaomi’s Mijia line. The Verge also describes HOTO’s first product as a screwdriver set for Xiaomi.
That history explains why a Xiaomi- or Mijia-branded tool may identify Shanghai HOTO Technology as its maker. It supports a product design and manufacturing relationship, not a claim that HOTO is a Xiaomi subsidiary. HOTO’s company history and its 2022 brand story are company-authored accounts; The Verge’s coverage provides additional context on the Xiaomi connection.
HOTO says its Mijia precision screwdriver set sold more than two million units from 2017 to 2020. That is a company-reported sales figure, not an independently audited market statistic.

Are HOTO tools any good?
The most useful independent evidence in the available coverage concerns one product: WIRED’s hands-on review of HOTO’s Snapbloq set. The reviewer found its compact electric screwdriver handy for small screws in and on electronics. But the tested driver’s 0.5 N·m torque struggled with somewhat-tight screws, and the reviewer needed a manual screwdriver when more force was required. That is a model-specific finding, not a test of every HOTO screwdriver, drill, or tool.
HOTO’s product pages provide specifications for other models, but those are manufacturer claims rather than independent performance tests. The 3.6V Electric Screwdriver Kit Pro is a different model from the Snapbloq driver reviewed by WIRED. Likewise, Popular Woodworking’s review of HOTO’s 12V drill concerns that specific earlier drill; its findings should not be generalized to other models.

Which HOTO tool fits the job?
These examples show why a brand-wide verdict can mislead: an electric screwdriver and a drill are designed for different work, and even two screwdrivers may have different capabilities.

What to check before buying
- Match the tool to the task. A compact screwdriver can suit light assembly and small fasteners; drilling calls for a drill model, not an electric screwdriver.
- Consider fastener resistance. The independent Snapbloq review is a reminder that a compact driver may not loosen tight screws. For higher-force jobs, choose a tool intended for that work and retain a manual driver as needed.
- Check the exact model’s specifications and accessories. Compare torque and speed only between tools intended for similar jobs, and confirm which bits or other accessories are included.
- Verify warranty terms locally. HOTO lists a one-year warranty for the cited Kit Pro and 16V Brushless Drill, but the applicable terms may depend on the exact product and buyer’s market.
What is not established about HOTO’s reliability?
The available reviews cover particular products, not a systematic, long-term durability study across HOTO’s range. They therefore do not support a claim that HOTO tools as a brand are uniformly reliable or unreliable. Treat the hands-on findings as useful evidence about the reviewed model and task, rather than a prediction of every product’s lifespan.
