Amazon’s custom U.S. electric delivery vans were developed with Rivian, while its broader global fleet also includes electric vans from other manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz in Europe. In June 2026, Amazon reported more than 40,000 Rivian vans in the U.S. and more than 50,000 electric delivery vans worldwide. Those figures describe different scopes: the global total is not a Rivian-only count.
Who makes Amazon’s electric delivery vans?
Rivian is the partner behind Amazon’s custom electric delivery van in the United States. Amazon says the companies announced their partnership in 2019 alongside an order for 100,000 vehicles. Rivian says it co-developed the vans with Amazon drivers and fleet managers. Amazon’s June 2026 overview and Rivian’s account of the vehicle program describe the partnership from each company’s perspective.
Rivian is not the only named supplier in Amazon’s electric delivery fleet. Amazon also reports a deployment of nearly 5,000 Mercedes-Benz electric vans across Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. Amazon says those vehicles were manufactured in Germany and Spain. This European deployment complements, rather than replaces, Rivian’s U.S. role. Amazon’s Europe report, dated June 4, 2026, gives the regional details.
How many electric delivery vans does Amazon have?
Amazon’s June 2026 figures vary by geography and vehicle scope. Its U.S. figure is specifically for custom Rivian vans; its global figure covers Amazon’s electric delivery vans from multiple deployments.

These are company-reported fleet figures, not an independently audited count, and the fleet can change. Amazon also says Rivian vans delivered more than 1 billion packages in the U.S. during 2024. Amazon’s fleet overview reports that figure along with the U.S. vehicle count.
What is distinctive about Rivian’s Amazon van?
Rivian’s 2022 description presents the electric delivery van (EDV) as a vehicle developed for delivery work and frequent interaction with drivers, pedestrians and neighborhoods. The company’s feature list at that time included automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and rear cross-traffic warnings, lane-keeping and blind-spot warnings, adaptive cruise control, and cameras and sensors. These are manufacturer-described features, not an independent assessment of how the systems perform in use. Rivian’s 2022 account also describes design choices made for drivers and neighborhood settings.

Rivian reported that preproduction testing since 2021 covered more than 90,000 miles and over 430,000 packages. Those are Rivian’s test-program totals, not independent test results. They should not be confused with Amazon’s later package-delivery totals for vehicles in active service.
Amazon’s September 2026 announcement adds a separate, future-facing feature claim: surround-view cameras were planned for 50% of Rivian electric delivery vehicles across its network by the end of 2026. That is a rollout target announced by Amazon Vice President of Transportation Beryl Tomay, not confirmation that the target has been met. Amazon’s announcement describes the planned deployment.

How does Amazon charge the vans?
Amazon says it has more than 50,000 chargers at over 250 U.S. delivery stations, and tens of thousands of charging points across its facilities globally. The company’s reporting establishes the scale of its charging infrastructure, but does not identify charger makes or models. The cited figures also do not establish that a particular retail charger is suitable for a delivery depot: fleet charging requires site- and operations-specific planning.

Amazon says its electric delivery vans delivered more than 2.4 billion packages globally in the preceding year with zero-exhaust emissions. “Zero-exhaust” describes emissions from the vehicle at the point of use; it is not a lifecycle comparison that accounts for electricity generation, vehicle and battery production, or other stages. The cited Amazon and Rivian reporting does not quantify lifecycle emissions against comparable combustion vehicles.

What can’t be compared from the published figures?
The available company reporting identifies suppliers, deployment regions and fleet scale, but it does not provide a like-for-like comparison of Rivian and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It does not establish which option has greater range, lower total cost of ownership, better uptime or lower lifecycle emissions. Those conclusions would require comparable specifications and evidence that the cited fleet reports do not provide.
