Phil Schiller is an Apple Fellow. Apple’s current leadership biography credits him with helping guide the company’s products and marketing for more than 30 years, but it does not spell out his present-day responsibilities. Recent secondary reports conflict over whether he still oversees the App Store and Apple Events.
What is Phil Schiller doing now?
Apple’s leadership page lists Schiller as an Apple Fellow, without describing a specific portfolio. The company said in 2020 that he would continue to lead the App Store and Apple Events after stepping down as senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. Later reports disagree about whether those duties remain his: MacRumors reported on September 7, 2026, that he continued to oversee them, while an August 31, 2026 report citing Bloomberg said he was stepping away from those roles. Neither report is an Apple announcement, so his exact current responsibilities are not established by the available official biography.
For the official title and career summary, see Apple’s Phil Schiller biography. Apple’s original role-change announcement is available in its August 4, 2020 Newsroom release.

More than three decades at Apple
Apple says Schiller’s career at the company began in 1987. He spent two decades as senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing and a member of Apple’s executive team. In 2020, Apple announced that he would move to the Apple Fellow role and that Greg Joswiak would become SVP of Worldwide Marketing. Schiller was to continue leading the App Store and Apple Events, reporting to CEO Tim Cook.
Cook said at the time: “Phil has helped make Apple the company it is today and his contributions are broad, vast, and run deep.”
Which Apple products did Schiller help shape?
Apple associates Schiller’s work with the Mac, iPod and iTunes, iPhone and App Store, and iPad. That describes broad guidance and marketing involvement across major product areas; it does not mean he created those products single-handedly.

Schiller and the App Store payment debate
His App Store connection has also placed him in public discussions about Apple’s payment policies. The Associated Press reported that Schiller testified in February 2025 about fees on some payments made outside Apple’s own payment system. AP’s account said he recalled concerns about compliance, collection, and developer relationships. Those details are a report of his testimony, not a court finding.
