Jamie Dimon is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co. He became CEO on January 1, 2006, and Chairman of the Board in 2007. The company’s 2026 proxy statement confirms he still holds both roles.

Jamie Dimon’s current role

JPMorgan Chase’s leadership biography identifies Dimon as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. The company’s 2026 proxy statement also refers to his ongoing service in both positions.

In those roles, he leads the company’s executive management and chairs its board. The company’s leadership page includes an assets figure without a comparable date in the retrieved text, so it should not be treated as a current measure of JPMorgan Chase’s size. In a 2026 announcement, the company reported $4.9 trillion in assets and $364 billion in stockholders’ equity as of March 31, 2026.

  • July 1, 2004: When Bank One merged with JPMorgan Chase, he became the combined company’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

What is Jamie Dimon’s career background?

Before leading JPMorgan Chase, Dimon held executive roles at American Express, Commercial Credit, Travelers, Smith Barney, and Citigroup, as summarized in the company’s biography. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

When is Jamie Dimon retiring?

JPMorgan Chase has not announced a definite date for Dimon to leave as CEO, and the company’s public announcements cited here do not name a successor to him in that role. In a 2026 company update, Dimon described his own timeline this way: “I’m here for a few years as CEO and maybe few after that as Executive Chairman and Chairman, depending on whatever the board wants me to do, whatever makes sense for the company.” His remarks are conditional, not a fixed retirement schedule.

The company has described other senior leadership changes as part of succession planning, but they do not establish who will succeed Dimon as CEO. In January 2025, JPMorgan Chase said Daniel Pinto planned to retire at the end of 2026 and announced Jennifer Piepszak as COO. In a 2026 announcement, the company named Doug Petno and Troy Rohrbaugh Co-Presidents and described the changes as a step in the board’s succession planning and senior-leader development.

What has Dimon said publicly about current issues?

In his shareholder letter accompanying JPMorgan Chase’s 2025 annual report, released in April 2026, Dimon wrote: “The challenges we all face are significant.” The company also published his essay “From the desk of Jamie Dimon: Policy matters” on May 4, 2026. That essay presents his policy views; it is commentary, not a neutral account of the issues he discusses.

The company sources establish Dimon’s current title, career chronology, and public statements, but they do not provide an independent assessment of his leadership or a balanced account of criticism and controversies.
