For a 4K TV, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820X) is a sensible compatibility-led shortlist pick if the sports services you need support Roku. It is not a universal way to unlock football: the streaming device runs apps, but broadcasters and streaming services determine which matches you can watch in your country. This guide covers both U.S. American football and UK association football, with rights examples current to the 2026 research date.
What makes a streaming device right for live football?
Start with the match, not the hardware. Check which service carries the fixture where you live, whether that service has an app for your exact device model, and whether your subscription includes the event. The NFL distributes games among multiple broadcasters and services; the Premier League sells broadcast rights territory by territory. A stick cannot bypass those rights or provide a subscription.

Official app support pages list Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV and other platforms for services including NFL, ESPN and Peacock. Those lists establish platform support, not that every game is available to every subscriber.

This is a recommendation based on published compatibility information, not a comparative speed or reliability test. Before buying, check the current app listing for the exact Roku model and country, and make sure the device is actually needed: the evidence does not compare its performance with a smart TV’s built-in apps.
Which services carry the football you want?
U.S. NFL and other American football
The NFL’s 2026 season guide divides games among services and networks. Local Sunday afternoon games air on CBS and FOX; Sunday Night Football is on NBC; Monday Night Football is on ESPN/ABC; and Thursday Night Football plus the Black Friday game are on Prime Video. The guide also lists selected games on NFL Network, YouTube and Netflix, including the São Paulo game on YouTube and Christmas Day games on Netflix. For out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, NFL says they are not available live on NFL+ and require NFL Sunday Ticket. Blackouts and location or provider restrictions may still apply. A compatible device does not remove those restrictions.

UK Premier League and association football
For the 2025/26 season, the Premier League says live UK matches are broadcast by Sky Sports and TNT Sports; BBC Sport is its free-to-air highlights partner. The league does not sell one universal live-match subscription. Its rights page lists broadcasters by territory for rights covering 2025/26 through 2027/28, including NBC Sports in the United States, Fubo in Canada and ESPN in Brazil. UK viewers wanting Sky Sports Premier League or EFL coverage can check NOW’s live sports options and current memberships. NOW lists Roku players, Fire TV sticks, Apple TV and Chromecast/Google TV among compatible devices. Plans and availability can change, so check current terms before subscribing.

Will you get 4K, HDR or surround sound?
Device compatibility alone does not guarantee enhanced picture or sound. NOW’s device table includes the Roku Streaming Stick 4K model 3820X for Ultra Boost UHD, HDR and Dolby Atmos, subject to compatible content and setup. NOW specifies at least 12 Mbps per device for Boost and 30 Mbps per device for Ultra Boost. These are NOW’s service requirements, not a general promise of uninterrupted playback.
