“Waterproof” is too strong a promise for a Moto phone: Motorola says its phones are not waterproof, and water resistance depends on the exact model and controlled test conditions. For an officially documented India example, Motorola lists an IP68 rating for the moto g96 5G. Treat other phones appearing in “waterproof” shopping lists as candidates to verify, not as confirmed IP-rated models.
What “waterproof” means for Moto phones
Motorola India’s support guidance states, “Not waterproof or dust proof.” It says water and dust resistance are tested under controlled laboratory conditions and that exposure beyond a phone’s rating is not covered by warranty. Motorola’s general guidance describes tests that include immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes, and powerful water jets—including high-pressure, high-temperature jets—for up to 30 seconds. Those are general manufacturer test conditions, not ratings to apply to every Moto model. Check the individual India model’s specifications before relying on any protection claim.
Which Moto model has an official India rating in the available specifications?

Motorola India’s specifications page lists an IP68 rating for the moto g96 5G. The same page lists a 5500 mAh battery, a 6.67-inch pOLED display and Water Touch. How to choose a water-resistant Moto phone
- Confirm the exact India variant. Open the manufacturer’s specifications or support page for the model and configuration sold in India; do not rely on a retailer category label or a listing for a different variant.
- Check the stated IP rating and warnings. Look for a model-specific rating and read the manufacturer’s water-care guidance. A general Motorola test description is not a substitute for the phone’s own specification.
- Match the rating to your intended use. A lab-tested rating does not make intentional submersion, pool use or exposure to salt water safe. Do not buy on the assumption that a rating guarantees protection in every real-world situation.
- Verify the purchase details. Check the current India price, stock, seller, configuration and warranty at the time you buy. Directory prices and category pages are starting points, not authoritative live offers.
- Compare the rest of the phone. Consider the display, battery, performance and budget alongside water resistance; do not rank models by the word “waterproof.”
What to do if a Moto phone gets wet
Motorola advises against intentional submersion, beach or pool use, salt water and liquids other than fresh water. If the phone gets wet, dry the device and ports with a soft, clean cloth, and do not charge it while wet. Avoid damaging water-repellent features.
