There is no single authoritative “top 10” ranking of healthcare software development companies. The candidates below are an editorial shortlist for U.S. organizations evaluating custom healthcare software, EHR integration, interoperability, modernization, or patient-facing products—not a claim that one vendor is objectively best. It draws on company descriptions and ranking pages updated in 2026, including Curatrix’s U.S.-focused list, Keyhole Software’s 2026 evaluation, NineTwoThree’s list updated September 10, 2026, and RaftLabs’ shortlist updated August 17, 2026. Those pages use different methods, and some are published by vendors that include themselves. Treat each specialty as a lead to verify, not an endorsement.

10 healthcare software development companies to investigate

This list is organized around the work a buyer may need, rather than presented as a universal score-based ranking. The descriptions below are attributed to the relevant ranking publisher; they do not independently establish current capabilities, credentials, outcomes, or fit. Confirm details with the proposed project team and client references before contracting.

Company Potential fit to investigate What the cited publisher says
ScienceSoft Broad healthcare engineering and analytics projects Curatrix describes work spanning telemedicine, EHRs, patient and physician apps, medical-device software, and laboratory systems. It says the company has served healthcare since 2005 and lists McKinney, Texas, as its headquarters. Verify the portfolio, current team, and any compliance or certification claims directly.
OSP Epic-related integration, migration, consulting, and upgrades Curatrix describes these as areas of specialization and cites ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, and HIPAA protocols. Ask for the precise scope and current status of any credentials, plus relevant production references.
Health Data Movers Epic-focused consulting and clinical-data migration Curatrix describes Epic consulting and migration work. Its 2026 page attributes 2.7 billion converted clinical records to the company; that figure is a publisher-reported claim, not independently verified here. Ask what “converted” means, which projects and period it covers, and what the proposed team has delivered.
Firely FHIR interoperability and .NET-based FHIR work Curatrix describes Firely’s interoperability work and maintenance of an open-source .NET SDK. It reports 239,706 R4 downloads per six-week period, but the observation window and underlying counter have not been independently checked here. Verify usage and ask for examples matching your implementation.
J2 Interactive Healthcare interoperability, integration, and health information exchange Curatrix describes experience involving InterSystems platforms and health information exchange projects. Confirm current platform credentials, named-system experience, and production references relevant to your use case.
Health Samurai FHIR-first platform or API work Curatrix describes Aidbox as FHIR-first, with PostgreSQL storage and an ONC-certified FHIR API module. Confirm the exact certification or authorization status, which module it applies to, and whether it covers your intended use.
Simform HL7/FHIR, telehealth, or custom product development NineTwoThree’s vendor-authored 2026 list characterizes Simform around HL7/FHIR and telehealth. Treat that as a starting point for diligence, not proof of a particular interface or production outcome.
Saritasa Legacy modernization, IoT, or virtual-reality work NineTwoThree’s vendor-authored 2026 list associates Saritasa with these areas. Ask for healthcare-specific examples and establish whether they match your clinical workflow and regulatory needs.
Vention Software as a medical device (SaMD) or enterprise telehealth NineTwoThree’s vendor-authored list describes these specialties. Verify the team’s experience with the particular product classification, quality practices, and intended market.
ActiveColor Patient engagement and user experience NineTwoThree’s list describes a focus on patient engagement and UX. Request evidence from products used by your intended patient population and assess accessibility, workflow, and integration requirements.

These ten are candidates drawn from different publishers’ descriptions, not a composite ranking. Other firms appear in those source lists—including Estenda, Computools, and Wi4 in Curatrix’s coverage, and Edenlab, GoodCore Software, Glorium Technologies, IT Craft, Kanda Software, KMS Healthcare, Arkenea, and RaftLabs in RaftLabs’ own shortlist. Their inclusion in a publisher’s list is not independent validation. RaftLabs includes itself in its list; NineTwoThree names itself first in its own five-company list and describes its own specialties. Keyhole says it included itself among the firms it scored using the same criteria.

How these lists differ—and what that means for buyers

The source rankings do not establish a settled market-wide order. Curatrix’s 2026 U.S. list says its rubric totals 120 points, normalized to a 0–100 scale. Its categories are healthcare experience (32), compliance and certifications (29), client portfolio (18), specialization (12), company stability (11), credibility signals (10), and contract readiness (8). This is Curatrix’s framework, not an industry standard.

#1 Best Overall

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Keyhole Software says it reviewed more than 40 firms between January 2025 and June 2026 before scoring nine. Its published weights are delivery evidence and outcomes (25%), HIPAA/security (20%), interoperability (15%), team seniority and delivery model (25%), and AI/automation (15%). Keyhole notes that its list favors established organizations over first-product startups. These weights reflect Keyhole’s choices, not a universal measure of vendor quality.

NineTwoThree’s September 10, 2026-updated article is a five-company U.S. list, while RaftLabs’ August 17, 2026-updated article is a nine-company shortlist. They differ in sample, scope, criteria, and the publishers’ relationship to listed firms. A position in any one list is therefore best used to generate questions, not to decide a procurement.

How to choose a partner for your project

Start with the system’s users and workflow, then test whether the vendor can show relevant production delivery. A general “healthcare” portfolio label is not enough: a hospital integration, a patient app, a medical-device product, and a payer workflow have different interfaces, risks, and operating needs.

Evaluation area What to establish
Relevant delivery evidence Similar systems delivered, production status, intended users, referenceable clients, and evidence of adoption, reliability, or workflow impact that can actually be shared.
Workflow and users Whether the team understands the specific clinical, operational, or patient workflow and the people who will use the product.
Security, privacy, and contracts How project data is accessed, protected, logged, retained, and removed; who has access; how incidents are handled; and which contractual commitments apply.
Interfaces and interoperability Named EHRs and other systems, exact APIs or standards used, data exchange patterns, responsibilities on each side, and production experience.
Quality and regulation Relevant quality-system and regulatory expertise when the product’s intended use requires it, and a clear account of what remains the buyer’s responsibility.
Team and delivery model Who will do the work, their seniority and location, the staffing model, continuity plan, and how the proposed team differs from the sales team.
Commercial and operational fit Fit with organizational size, budget, and timeline; acceptance criteria; support and maintenance obligations; ownership; and exit and data-portability terms.
Evidence quality Current, appropriately scoped certificates or independent assessments, client references, and independent reviews. Separate vendor statements from evidence you can inspect.

Questions to ask in an RFP or discovery call

  • Which similar system has the proposed team—not just the company—delivered? Can we speak with a client reference?
  • Is that system in production, who uses it, and what evidence can you share about adoption, reliability, or workflow impact?
  • Which EHRs and interfaces has this team integrated in production? Which standards, APIs, exchange patterns, and responsibilities were involved?
  • How will protected health information be accessed, encrypted, logged, retained, and deleted? Who can access it, and how are incidents escalated and handled?
  • Will business associate or subcontractor arrangements apply to this relationship? If so, what commitments and parties are involved?
  • Which certifications or independent assessments are current, what scope do they cover, and what evidence can we review?
  • Who will work on the project, where are they located, how senior are they, and how will you maintain staffing continuity?
  • If the product is regulated or affects clinical decisions, what quality and regulatory expertise is included, and which responsibilities stay with us?
  • What are the acceptance criteria, post-launch support model, maintenance costs, ownership terms, and exit or data-portability arrangements?

These are procurement prompts, not a substitute for legal or regulatory advice. Requirements depend on the product, parties, data, intended use, and jurisdictions involved.

What “HIPAA-compliant” should—and should not—tell you

A marketing statement that a vendor is “HIPAA compliant” does not, by itself, guarantee that a particular project or relationship meets applicable requirements. Ask for project-specific security practices and contractual commitments, including how access is controlled, data is handled, incidents are addressed, and any relevant business associate and subcontractor arrangements work. Have qualified counsel assess the actual parties, product, and data flows.

How to verify EHR, HL7, and FHIR claims

HL7 or FHIR experience is an evaluation axis, not evidence that a firm supports every EHR, version, workflow, or implementation. Ask the vendor to name the systems and versions it has worked with, describe the actual interfaces and data flows, identify which side owns each integration responsibility, and provide a production reference where possible. For platform or certification claims, verify the exact module and status rather than relying on a broad label.
