For Bose over-ear headphones, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are the strongest premium pick; the standard QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) are the lower-cost option, but early reviews raise value and build concerns. If you want earbuds rather than an over-ear headset, consider the separate QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen).

Which Bose over-ear headphones are worth buying?

The choice is between the premium QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) and the less expensive QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen). The Ultra is the better-supported recommendation if you want Bose’s most capable over-ear noise cancellation and its fuller feature set. The standard model is worth considering when its price is meaningfully lower and comfort and sound matter more to you than the Ultra’s additional features.

Prices below are US figures from launch coverage or a dated product listing, not guarantees of today’s price. Check local retailer prices before deciding.

Model Published US price What the evidence supports Important caveats
QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) $450 US launch price, reported by What Hi-Fi? in 2026. What Hi-Fi? Strongest documented noise cancellation among these Bose over-ears; aptX Adaptive and USB-C wired listening. What Hi-Fi? reports 45 hours with ANC off or 30 hours with ANC on. Premium price; reviewer feedback is not uniformly glowing on sound and build. Immersive Audio reduces the reported battery figure to 23 hours.
QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) $359 US launch price, reported by TechRadar in 2026. TechRadar TechRadar’s reviewer praised comfort and sound. What Hi-Fi? reports 24 hours with ANC on or 18 hours in Immersive modes. TechRadar criticized build, feature depth, battery life and full-price value. What Hi-Fi? said it had not tested this model when it published its comparison.

QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen): choose them for the premium feature set

What Hi-Fi? awarded the Ultra four stars and praised its noise blocking, describing it as “eliminating the deepest rumbles and the majority of mid-band hubbub we encounter on our daily travels.” That is the publication’s review, not a Bose promise or an independent test for this article. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 guide also calls the ANC the best it has experienced, while saying sound and build do not fully meet expectations. These are reviewer judgments, not a consensus that every listener will share.

What Hi-Fi? reports 45 hours of battery life with ANC off and 30 hours with ANC on; its reported figure falls to 23 hours with Immersive Audio. The listening mode therefore matters when you compare advertised endurance. The same review identifies aptX Adaptive support and USB-C wired listening, which may matter if you use compatible source equipment or want a wired option.

QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen): buy only at the right discount

Announced on August 6, 2026, the standard QuietComfort 2nd Gen launched in the US at $359. TechRadar’s reviewer found them comfortable and enjoyable to listen to, but criticized their construction, limited feature depth, stated 24-hour ANC-on battery claim and value at full price. That is one recent review rather than a settled body of opinion. What Hi-Fi? explicitly said, “We haven’t yet tested the QuietComfort (2nd Gen) model” in its comparison, so its coverage should not be read as a second hands-on verdict.

What Hi-Fi? reports 24 hours with ANC on and 18 hours in Immersive modes. The standard model makes more sense if it costs materially less than the Ultra and you prioritize comfort and sound over the Ultra’s extras; at a small price gap, the Ultra’s broader feature set is easier to justify.

Do you want earbuds instead?

The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) are an in-ear alternative, not a smaller version of either over-ear headset. Bose’s US product page listed them at $299 on October 7, 2026, and claims up to six hours of playback. The case supports wireless charging, and Bose’s app offers customization. Choose them if you specifically want earbuds; fit and wearing preference matter more than a direct over-ear comparison.

  • Street price: Compare the current local prices of both over-ear models. A meaningful gap favors the standard QuietComfort if you do not need the Ultra’s extras.
  • Noise cancellation: The Ultra has the strongest documented ANC recommendation among these over-ear choices. The cited coverage does not establish a complete head-to-head test across all Bose models.
  • Battery in your mode: Compare ANC-on figures with ANC-on figures, and account for the lower reported endurance in Immersive modes. Do not treat an ANC-off maximum as typical ANC use.
  • Connectivity: The Ultra review identifies aptX Adaptive and USB-C wired listening. Consider whether those features match your devices and listening habits.
  • Fit and form: Comfort is a positive in TechRadar’s standard QuietComfort review, while the earbuds serve a different in-ear use case. Try to choose the wearing style you actually want rather than treating the earbuds as an over-ear substitute.
  • Build and features: TechRadar’s concerns about the standard model’s build and feature depth, and the critiques of Ultra sound and construction, are relevant trade-offs alongside ANC and price.

Bottom line by buyer type

  • Want premium Bose over-ear ANC and features? Choose the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), while weighing their high price against reviewer concerns about sound and build.
  • Want less expensive Bose over-ears? Consider the standard QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) when its price is substantially below the Ultra and its comfort-focused appeal outweighs the documented concerns.
  • Prefer an in-ear fit? The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) are the relevant option; their US price cited here is dated, so check the current listing.
