The Bose Wave Music System IV is the clearest match if you want a Bose system with a built-in CD player and AM/FM radio. Bose no longer sells it on its website, so buyers will generally be looking at used units or remaining stock. The Wave SoundTouch series IV adds Bluetooth, AUX, and network-related options, but Bose ended SoundTouch cloud support on May 6, 2026. Neither official product information nor the available evidence establishes that one model sounds better than another.
Which Bose system best fits a CD-and-radio setup?
For straightforward CD playback and AM/FM listening, start with the Wave Music System IV. Bose lists compact-disc playback, MP3-format CD capability, and AM/FM radio. Bose says the system is no longer available for purchase on its website, although support remains available. Bose Canada Support lists its sales period as 2015–2023.
The Wave SoundTouch series IV is an alternative if you also want Bluetooth, AUX, or supported SoundTouch functions. Bose lists its sales period as 2015–2021. Its network features need special consideration because the SoundTouch cloud service ended in 2026.
| System | Documented playback and sources | What to know before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Wave Music System IV | CD, MP3-format CDs, AM/FM radio | Bose no longer sells it on its website. Treat it as a used, resale, or remaining-stock purchase. |
| Wave SoundTouch series IV | CD and radio, with SoundTouch, Bluetooth, and AUX source choices | SoundTouch cloud features ended May 6, 2026; some local and direct-streaming functions remain. |
| Earlier Wave and Acoustic Wave models | Bose’s support catalog includes CD-and-radio models such as Wave Music System III, Wave radio/CD, and several Acoustic Wave systems. | The support catalog is historical; it does not establish current stock, parts supply, or sound-quality rankings. |
The official material describes capabilities and product history, not independent head-to-head listening tests. It supports identifying the Wave IV as a direct feature match, but not calling it objectively best-sounding.

What changed for SoundTouch owners in 2026?
Bose ended SoundTouch cloud support on May 6, 2026. The change affects products sold with SoundTouch functionality; Bose says it does not affect other products. SoundTouch has not become entirely unusable, but cloud-dependent features have stopped working.
Functions Bose says remain
- Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, and AUX.
- Local app controls and setup/configuration, remote controls, and grouping.
- The SoundTouch app remains available to download until further notice.
Functions Bose says no longer work
- Presets.
- Browsing or playing music services directly from the SoundTouch app.
- Alexa voice commands.
- Software and security updates.
These details are based on Bose’s SoundTouch service update dated May 6, 2026. If you are buying a SoundTouch unit, decide whether the remaining Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, AUX, and local controls meet your needs without the discontinued cloud functions.

How to check a used Wave CD radio before buying
Because Bose no longer sells the Wave Music System IV on its website and no current third-party listings or prices are established here, assess each unit and seller individually rather than relying on a generic price expectation.
- Confirm the exact model and regional variant. Ask for a photo of the model label and verify it matches the listing description.
- Ask the seller to demonstrate CD playback. Check that the mechanism accepts and plays a disc, and that track controls respond.
- Check AM/FM reception and controls. Verify tuning, volume, buttons, and display operation in a demonstration if possible.
- Confirm what is included. Bose lists a Wave Music System IV remote and an FM antenna adapter. Check whether the remote is included and whether any antenna adapter is needed for your setup; confirm compatibility with the exact model and region.
- Review return terms and condition. Ask about cosmetic wear, faults, and the seller’s return policy before paying.
Are older Bose Wave or Acoustic Wave models worth considering?
Bose’s CD-and-radio support catalog includes earlier options, including the Wave Music System III, Wave radio/CD, and several Acoustic Wave systems. That makes them possible used alternatives when a Wave IV is unavailable, but a support listing is not evidence that a model is currently sold new or that replacement parts are readily available. Compare the specific unit’s condition, included accessories, and documented functions; the official catalog does not provide an apples-to-apples sound ranking.

What if you want a current Bose speaker instead?
Bose’s Wave IV page also points to the current SoundLink Home Speaker. The cited Bose information mentions USB-C input and the ability to pair two speakers for stereo, but does not establish built-in CD playback or radio reception. It is therefore a different kind of speaker, not a direct CD-radio replacement. Choose it only if you are willing to give up the integrated CD and AM/FM functions.
