For a movie in a dark room, start with the Nebula P1’s Movies picture mode and Movies sound mode. For everyday TV in a lit room, try Standard; for sports, use Sports; and for console gaming, try Games—but note that TechRadar found Game mode disables digital keystone and zoom correction. Choose sound separately: Music aims for balanced playback, Outdoors reduces bass and raises maximum volume, and Custom lets you adjust bass and treble.
Which picture mode should you use?
Nebula’s P1 support FAQ describes the presets by viewing situation. These are starting points, not calibrated settings guaranteed to look the same in every room, on every screen, or across firmware versions.

To compare presets, keep the room, image size, and content constant. Change one setting at a time and choose the picture that looks best to you; a brighter-looking preset is not necessarily more accurate.

What independent reviews suggest trying
What Hi-Fi? reported using Movie mode, setting MEMC to Low, and reducing sharpness and saturation from their defaults in its test. The reviewer described the resulting motion as more natural and the picture as more balanced, while also noting limitations in color, over-sharpened outlines, and shadow detail. Treat those choices as experiments rather than universal calibration values.

TechRadar characterized the P1 as better suited to dim or dark viewing, though it found bright, colorful material watchable with some ambient light. In that review, pixel structure became more noticeable on images larger than about 100 inches; that observation is not a universal size limit.
Which sound mode should you choose?
The sound presets describe their intended tonal character, not measured frequency response or a calibrated equalizer. Select one according to the listening situation:

The P1’s speakers detach, so their placement and your listening position can affect perceived stereo width. Nebula advertises wireless stereo and up to 20 hours of speaker playback; that runtime is a manufacturer claim for speaker playback, not projector runtime. What Hi-Fi? described the sound as clean and punchy. TechRadar found dialogue intelligible and said the separated speakers could create a wide soundstage, while noting limited bass depth and fullness. These are reviewer impressions, not guaranteed results.

How should you set up the image before fine-tuning it?
Get the projector’s physical position and image size right before relying on digital correction. TechRadar notes that digital keystone, zoom, and rotation adjustments can reduce usable image area or pixels, so avoid unnecessary correction when you can fix the geometry by repositioning the projector.
- Place the projector squarely toward the screen and choose the image size and distance.
- Focus using the remote’s Focus button or go to All Settings > Projector > Focus > Start Auto Focus.
- If autofocus does not make the image clear, long-press the remote’s Focus button, choose Manual Focus, and use the left or right arrows.
- If the frame is still skewed, go to All settings > Projector > Keystone correction, then choose Start Auto Keystone Correction or Perform Manual Keystone Correction.
The product page lists 1080p Full HD resolution and 650 ANSI lumens as manufacturer specifications, and says the P1 supports autofocus, keystone, screen fit, and obstacle avoidance. The brightness figure is a specification, not a guarantee that the image will overcome strong ambient light.

What changes for gaming?
Try Games mode when responsiveness matters. TechRadar reported low latency in its test, but also found that Game mode disables digital keystone and zoom correction. If you want to use this mode, arrange the projector physically before playing so the image is framed without those corrections. The review’s latency observation is not a measurement guaranteed for every device, input, or firmware version.
