The largest AI-related public company in Capital.com’s 28 August 2026 snapshot was NVIDIA, valued at $5.51 trillion by market capitalization. Among the private AI labs with company-announced financing valuations covered here, Anthropic reported a $965 billion post-money valuation in May 2026, while OpenAI reported $852 billion in March 2026. These figures use different methods and dates, so they are useful comparisons—not a synchronized ranking.

What does “biggest AI company” mean?

There is no single ranking unless the comparison defines both which companies count as AI companies and how their value is measured. A practical approach separates public companies with substantial AI exposure from private, AI-native labs.

  • Public, AI-related companies: often diversified businesses—such as chip designers, cloud providers, software companies and digital platforms—with significant AI exposure. Their market capitalization is based on publicly traded shares.
  • Private AI-native companies: companies focused on AI whose commonly cited values are tied to a priced financing or transaction, rather than a live stock-market quote.

This distinction matters: a broad public-company list can include businesses whose operations extend far beyond AI, while private financing valuations are not continuously updated by trading.

Largest AI-related public companies in the cited snapshot

Capital.com’s ranking gives the following market-cap figures for 28 August 2026. It covers listed companies with AI exposure, rather than only businesses devoted exclusively to AI.

Company Market capitalization Snapshot date
NVIDIA $5.51 trillion 28 August 2026
Apple $4.59 trillion 28 August 2026
Alphabet $4.13 trillion 28 August 2026
Microsoft $3.75 trillion 28 August 2026

Capital.com defines market capitalization as share price multiplied by the number of outstanding shares. Because share prices and exchange rates change, these values are a dated snapshot, not live quotes. Capital.com’s AI-company ranking and methodology

Private AI labs with announced financing valuations

Company announcements provide a different kind of value: a post-money valuation associated with a financing round. The dates below are separate from the public-market snapshot.

Company Announced valuation Financing context Announcement date
Anthropic $965 billion post-money After a $65 billion Series H funding round 28 May 2026
OpenAI $852 billion post-money $122 billion in committed capital March 2026

These are financing-linked valuations, not market prices at which all company shares can be bought or sold. Anthropic’s Series H announcement and OpenAI’s 2026 valuation announcement.

How to read the figures without mixing unlike values

Market capitalization is a public-market measure

For a listed company, market capitalization is calculated by multiplying the share price by the number of outstanding shares. It can move whenever the market price changes. Capital.com’s figures are specifically dated 28 August 2026, so they should not be presented as current live prices or directly aligned with private financing announcements. Capital.com’s explanation of market capitalization and snapshot timing

Private valuations reflect a priced transaction

A private-company valuation is commonly associated with the terms of its latest priced financing or another transaction. It does not update continuously through public share trading. Prompt20 describes this distinction between public market capitalization and private latest-transaction valuations in its AI-company leaderboard methodology.

Scope is as important as the number

NVIDIA’s place at the top of the cited public snapshot does not make that list a ranking of AI-only businesses. Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft also have substantial operations outside AI. Conversely, the private-lab figures above are for AI-native companies. A meaningful comparison should label the company scope, valuation method and date alongside every figure.

What the comparison tells you

  • In the dated public-company snapshot, NVIDIA leads the selected AI-related listed companies at $5.51 trillion.
  • The largest private AI-lab valuation covered here is Anthropic’s $965 billion post-money figure, announced in May 2026; OpenAI announced $852 billion in March 2026.
  • The public and private figures cannot be treated as synchronized prices: one is a stock-market snapshot and the others are tied to separate financing announcements.

Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao said of the Series H funding: “This funding will help us serve the historic demand we are experiencing, stay at the research frontier, and bring Claude to more of the places where work happens.” Anthropic’s 28 May 2026 announcement
