For a Riverwalk-focused visit, look first at hotels on or near downtown Tampa’s 2.6-mile waterfront path. Choose the Water Street and Channel District side if you want to be near the streetcar and southeast-side attractions; choose Ybor City if staying in its historic district is central to your plans. The TECO Line Streetcar connects all three areas, while walking works well for many downtown parks and attractions.
Which area fits your Tampa plans?
The Riverwalk follows the Hillsborough River to the Garrison Channel. Its connected downtown setting makes it useful for reaching nearby parks, museums, and waterfront attractions, but it does not make every Tampa destination walkable. For route details, see Visit Tampa Bay’s Riverwalk guide.
| Area | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Riverwalk and downtown | Visitors prioritizing the waterfront path, downtown parks, museums, and nearby venues. | Some hotels are listed as directly on or close to the route. Check the hotel’s current location, access, and amenities before booking. |
| Water Street and Channel District | Visitors whose plans include the southeast side of downtown or convenient streetcar connections. | The streetcar connects this area with downtown and Ybor City; the City lists several downtown hotels on its route. |
| Ybor City | Visitors who specifically want to stay near Ybor’s historic district and nightlife. | Ybor is a distinct neighborhood, linked to downtown by the TECO Line Streetcar. The sources do not establish comparative hotel quality or neighborhood safety. |
Hotels on or near the Riverwalk
The Friends of the Riverwalk hotel directory gives examples of properties positioned for a Riverwalk-centered stay. It describes the Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk as near the route and Straz Center, Hotel Tampa Riverwalk as having direct Riverwalk access, and Hilton Tampa Downtown as two blocks from the Riverwalk. These are directory descriptions, not independently measured walking times.
The same listing includes JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, Tampa Marriott Water Street, Hyatt House Tampa Downtown, and Hyatt Place Tampa Downtown on the Water Street/Channel District side. Visit Tampa Bay also lists downtown hotels on the TECO streetcar route, including the Marriotts and Westin Tampa Waterside. See the City of Tampa’s downtown guide for neighborhood context.

Use these names as starting points rather than rankings: the available sources do not provide a consistent comparison of rates, amenities, or hotel accessibility. Check each property’s own website for current room details, accessibility information, availability, and prices for your dates.
What can you reach along the Riverwalk?
The City lists parks, museums, entertainment venues, and on-water activities along the route. Examples include Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the Florida Aquarium, the Straz Center, and Pirate Water Taxi. The City’s Tampa Riverwalk page is useful for identifying stops that match your plans.
Rank #2
At 2.6 miles, the route is described by Visit Tampa Bay as suitable for walking, biking, or riding a scooter. Walking is a practical way to link nearby downtown stops; for farther waterfront destinations or adjacent districts, consider transit or a water taxi instead.

Rank #3
Take the TECO Line Streetcar to the Channel District or Ybor City
The City describes the TECO Line Streetcar as a 2.7-mile route connecting downtown Tampa, the Channel District, and Ybor City. Its current streetcar page lists free fares, service every 15 minutes, and these hours: Monday–Thursday, 7 a.m.–11 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m.–2 a.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.–2 a.m.; and Sunday, 8:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Friends of the Riverwalk also describes free service every 15 minutes and 11 covered wheelchair-accessible stations. Because schedules and service details can change, check the City’s TECO Line Streetcar page and its linked live tracker or schedule before you travel.
Use Pirate Water Taxi for waterfront stops
The City says Pirate Water Taxi operates daily with 14 stops along the Riverwalk and nearby Harbor and Davis Islands. Friends of the Riverwalk describes all-day unlimited rides after purchasing a wristband. Schedules, stops, fares, and ticket terms can change, so confirm current details before relying on this option. Start with the City’s downtown transportation page and the Friends of the Riverwalk transportation guide.
Choose other transport for the actual destination
The City also lists HART buses, app-based rideshare, bike rental, and other water-based options. These are not interchangeable: choose based on your destination, schedule, and mobility needs, and check the relevant operator for routes and service details.

- Map your main plans. If most stops are downtown parks, museums, or venues, begin with hotels on or near the Riverwalk. If you expect to spend time on the southeast side, compare Water Street and Channel District locations. If Ybor itself is your focus, look for lodging in that neighborhood.
- Check the connection you will use. Confirm the hotel’s route to the Riverwalk or the nearest streetcar stop, then verify current transit schedules and any water-taxi terms for your dates.
- Compare the details that vary by property and date. Check current rates, availability, room features, and accessibility directly with the hotel or booking provider. The cited visitor and City pages do not supply current hotel prices or a like-for-like amenity comparison.
For accessible travel, verify both the hotel’s accessibility details and the specific transit route or station with the relevant provider; the cited hotel listings do not establish accessibility features for each property. The City’s transportation options page links visitors to downtown options, but individual trip details should be checked before setting plans.
