Difficulty names are set by each site, not by a shared rating scale, so “Expert” on one site cannot be assumed to match “Expert” on another. For learning, look at whether hints explain the logic; for a quick start, prioritize browser access and whether an account is needed. The table reflects site-published claims and does not independently verify privacy, advertising, or performance.
How to start a Sudoku puzzle
- Open one of the browser-game links above and choose a difficulty level.
- Find a row, column, or 3×3 box that already has several digits filled in.
- Work out which digits are missing, then check each empty square against its row, column, and box.
- Enter a digit only when it fits all three constraints. If you are unsure, use pencil notes where available or request a hint.
Classic Sudoku is a 9×9 grid divided into nine 3×3 boxes. Each row, column, and box must contain the digits 1 through 9 once each. The digits are symbols: solving does not require arithmetic. inSudoku describes hints that explain a logical step, while ClearSudoku lists notes and auto-notes; Suuuudokuuu describes technique-aware hints.

Penguin Random House lists The Official Book of Sudoku: Book 1 as a 2005 paperback containing 150 puzzles and solutions across 208 pages; current retail availability is not established here.
