In iOS 18, open Photos, tap Collections, then swipe up to browse and tap Favorites. The redesigned Photos app groups content into collections, so Favorites may no longer be where you remember it from an earlier version.
Find Favorites in iOS 18 Photos
- Open the Photos app.
- Tap Collections.
- Swipe up to browse the collections, then tap Favorites.
Apple’s iPhone guide to browsing photo collections describes this route. Depending on what is shown on your screen, swipe left or right across items beneath a collection heading, or tap a heading to see that category.

Make Favorites easier to reach
iOS 18 lets you customize the Photos collection layout: you can reorder collections and choose items for Pinned Collections. Use the collection customization controls to pin Favorites or move collections into an order that suits you. Apple describes these changes in its iOS 18 update notes and collection browsing guide. The exact layout can vary by software version and device configuration.
Want to see favorites without opening the collection?
Apple’s iOS 18 update notes also describe Favorites as a filter in the photo grid. Use that filter when you want to view favorited items directly in the grid rather than navigating to the Favorites collection.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Favorites is not the Recovered collection
Favorites is a normal Photos collection. Recovered is a separate collection in Utilities that appears only if the device finds eligible photos or videos that are on the device but not currently in the library. It is not the usual location for Favorites. See Apple’s Recovered album guidance for details.
Recovered items can be restored to the library or permanently deleted. Apple warns that deleting an item from Recovered bypasses Recently Deleted and cannot be undone; that action is relevant only when managing recovered items, not when looking for Favorites.

Why instructions may look different on another iOS version
Apple’s Favourites and albums instructions document a later iOS 26 route: Photos > Collections > Pinned > Favorites. That version-specific path should not be treated as the universal iOS 18 navigation. In iOS 18, start by browsing Collections and use its customization controls if you want Favorites pinned.
