For quick GIF searches and downloads, GIFDB says you can browse without signing up. For uploading your own GIFs, GIPHY documents upload and visibility controls. Tenor remains available to consumers on its website and mobile keyboards, but its developer API was sunset on June 30, 2026. GIFimage cannot be reliably assessed from available official information, so its features and policies remain unverified.
Which GIF service fits what you want to do?
| Service | Best-supported use | What is established | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|
| GIFDB | Browse, search, download, and share GIFs | GIFDB says no account or signup is required. Its desktop guidance says to right-click a GIF and choose “Save Image As.” GIFDB | The claims come from the site itself, not an independent usability assessment; search quality and licensing terms are not established here. |
| GIFimage | Unknown | No reliable official source was identified to verify current features. | Its identity, availability, search, upload and download tools, privacy practices, and licensing are unverified. That absence of evidence does not establish that the service is unavailable or unsafe. |
| GIPHY | Find, upload, and distribute GIFs and stickers | Uploading requires signing in. Uploaders can add tags and a source URL and choose public or private visibility. GIPHY says its search is available on GIPHY.com and in several third-party apps. GIPHY upload instructions; GIPHY search distribution information | Search reach does not guarantee that every upload will appear. GIPHY says upgraded channel content is eligible for search and API distribution. |
| Tenor | Consumer GIF search and keyboard use | Google Tenor Help says consumers can use Tenor.com, its Android or iOS GIF Keyboard, and listed Google integrations. Google Tenor Help | The Tenor developer API is no longer available: Google says it was sunset on June 30, 2026. Availability in a particular non-Google app depends on that app’s integration. |
Choose based on your task
Search for a GIF or save one in a browser
GIFDB’s own guidance supports browsing, searching, downloading, and sharing without signup. On desktop, its instruction is to right-click the image and select “Save Image As.” The available information does not independently establish how relevant its search results are or what usage rights apply to individual GIFs.
Upload and share your own GIF
GIPHY is the option in this comparison with documented upload controls. You must sign in to upload; the flow supports tags, a source URL, and public or private visibility. GIPHY says search is available through its site and in several third-party apps, but uploaded content is not automatically guaranteed to be included: upgraded channel content is eligible for search and API distribution.

Use GIF search from a keyboard or app
Tenor’s consumer service remains available through Tenor.com and its Android and iOS GIF Keyboard, according to Google Tenor Help. Google also lists some integrations, but that does not establish that Tenor is available in every messaging app. Check the specific app you use.

Assess GIFimage cautiously
Reliable official information was not identified to confirm what GIFimage currently offers. Its download behavior, upload support, privacy protections, licensing, and availability are therefore unknown; do not treat those details as established facts.
Tenor: consumer access is separate from its API
Google’s Tenor Help says the API was sunset on June 30, 2026; new API key sign-ups and integrations had stopped on January 13, 2026. Those dates concern the developer API, not the consumer service. Google says people can still use Tenor.com and the Tenor mobile GIF Keyboard. Do not use older API setup instructions as evidence that a new integration can be created now. Google Tenor Help

Why Tenor results can differ by app
Tenor says its recommendations use search terms, language, and location. Partner apps may apply their own settings, including content type, appropriateness rating, file type, shape, and location. As a result, results and filters can vary depending on where you search. Tenor search recommendations and settings
What this comparison does—and does not—establish
Tenor’s developer quickstart reports more than 300 million searches per day and support for more than 45 languages. These are vendor-published figures; the page does not state the year for the daily-search figure. They are not independent measurements or a head-to-head test of search quality. Its API operating instructions are superseded by Google’s sunset notice. Google for Developers: Tenor API quickstart

- 50 Masterful Artworks: Featuring pieces by renowned artists like Fra Angelico, Rodin, and Van Gogh
- Spiritual Reflections: 80 insightful meditations by Pierre-Marie Dumont, Founder of Magnificat
- Literary Excerpts: 50 selections from esteemed authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Thomas Merton
The available information supports a practical distinction: GIFDB describes no-signup browsing and saving; GIPHY documents creator upload controls and distribution eligibility; Tenor offers consumer access while its API is discontinued. It does not support a complete comparison of search relevance, licensing, privacy, or download behavior across all four services.
