On a Samsung Galaxy phone, open the apps screen and search for Voice Recorder. Tap Record to make a voice memo, then tap Stop and Save. If the app is missing, Samsung says you can install it from Galaxy Store. Call recordings use a separate feature in the Phone app.
Where is Voice Recorder on a Samsung phone?
Open the apps screen and search for Voice Recorder. If it does not appear, Samsung says the app is available to download from Galaxy Store. The exact app list and screen layout can vary by Galaxy model, software, and app version. Samsung’s Voice Recorder guide covers the basic app workflow.
How to record a voice memo on a Samsung Galaxy
- Open Voice Recorder from the apps screen.
- Tap Record to begin recording.
- When you are finished, tap Stop, review the file name, and tap Save.
To play a saved memo, open Voice Recorder, select the file, and tap Play. To share one, press and hold its entry and choose Share.

In Samsung’s My Files app, browse to Internal storage > Recordings > Voice Recorder. Recordings made by third-party apps may be stored elsewhere. Menu names and file locations can vary with device and software versions. Samsung’s file-location instructions describe the usual folder route.

Voice Recorder or Phone: which should you use?

How to record a call on a Samsung Galaxy
Call recording is separate from making a memo in Voice Recorder. During a supported call, open Phone > More options and tap Record call. Samsung’s steps may differ by Galaxy model and One UI version, and call recording may not be available in some countries because of local regulations. Check local requirements and tell the other person before recording when required by law. Samsung’s call-recording instructions explain the feature and its limits.
Set up automatic call recording
- Open Phone > More options > Settings > Record calls.
- Tap Auto record calls, enable it, and confirm the terms if prompted.
- Choose whether to record all calls, calls with unsaved numbers, or calls with specific numbers.
To find saved calls, return to Phone > More options > Settings > Record calls > Recorded calls. Availability and menu labels depend on region, model, and One UI version. Samsung’s US One UI 8 guidance also describes a recording notification for participants and model exclusions for transcript and summary features; those functions are not universal. Optional recording settings and enhancements
Basic voice memos do not require an accessory. Depending on the device and software, Voice Recorder may offer recording-quality choices, modes such as standard or interview, speech transcription, Galaxy AI transcription assistance, or saving to an inserted SD card. These options are not available on every Galaxy phone. Samsung’s Japan Voice Recorder FAQ, updated September 16, 2026, lists device-specific availability and says higher quality uses more storage. Check Samsung’s Voice Recorder FAQ and verify the options on your own device.
On supported setups, the app can use a connected Bluetooth microphone. This can be useful for an interview or a voice recorded at a distance, but compatibility depends on both the phone and microphone; a particular model is not guaranteed.
