Download Arista EOS firmware through Arista’s Support portal, under Software Download. The right image depends on your exact switch or virtual EOS platform and its supported versions; a generic search for an EOS .swi file is not enough to identify a safe match. Downloads are account- and entitlement-controlled, so contact Arista Support or TAC if the download is unavailable to your account.

Where to get an Arista EOS image

Sign in to Arista Support and open Software Download. Arista’s Support Overview lists “Software Downloads EOS Software, vEOS, Product Stencils,” making the vendor portal the appropriate starting point for EOS and vEOS images. Avoid unofficial firmware mirrors: a file found elsewhere may not be authentic, entitled for your use, or compatible with your hardware.

Arista controls access through account and device entitlement. If you can sign in but cannot see or retrieve an image, check that your account is registered, the device is associated with the account, and the device’s support coverage and lifecycle status permit access. If those checks do not resolve it, contact Arista Support or open a TAC case through Arista’s support channels.

Identify the image before downloading

Do not select an image based only on “Arista EOS” or a filename that looks plausible. First record the exact switch or virtual platform model, the EOS version currently running, and the target release you intend to install. Use Arista’s supported-version information for that platform to confirm the candidate; the title alone does not establish a compatible filename or release.

  • Platform: Confirm the exact hardware model or virtual EOS platform.
  • Current version: Record the version currently installed so you can plan a supported upgrade path.
  • Target version: Choose only a release supported for that platform, rather than assuming the newest available release is appropriate.
  • Related software: If CloudVision is involved, check that the EOS image works with the relevant Streaming Agent version.

The available information here does not identify a model, release, or filename, so it cannot establish which specific .swi file you need. Confirm those details against Arista’s device-specific documentation or Support before installing.

Using CloudVision to retrieve and manage EOS images

For a CloudVision-managed device, use Software Management Studio and its Software Repository to add and manage the EOS image. To retrieve cloud-hosted files, Arista requires a token from your Arista profile; add it under Compliance Updates before selecting those files.

CloudVision validates images and rejects unsupported EOS versions. It can store images, assign them to devices, and apply upgrade policies, including ZTP policies that automatically upgrade devices below configured target versions when that behavior is enabled. Check the repository’s validation result and the EOS/Streaming Agent compatibility before scheduling an upgrade.

CloudVision’s Software Management Studio documentation states that all .swi images require a reboot. Choose the upgrade mode and maintenance window with that impact in mind; do not assume an image can be applied without restarting the device.

Before installing the image

  1. Verify the image matches the exact platform and supported target version.
  2. Back up the device configuration and follow the upgrade procedure for that device and deployment method. Arista’s EOS manual includes a backup prerequisite in its documented CVX procedure; consult the applicable procedure rather than treating that CVX-specific instruction as the complete guidance for every upgrade.
  3. For CloudVision, confirm repository validation, Streaming Agent compatibility where applicable, the device assignment, and the intended upgrade mode or ZTP policy.
  4. Schedule the required reboot and follow the device-specific installation and recovery instructions.

Firmware access is separate from EOS license transfer

Downloading an image and transferring a software license are different matters. Arista’s Software License Framework says EOS licenses are perpetual unless a term is specified in the SKU, and perpetual licenses are not transferable among products without written authorization from Arista. If your situation involves moving a license to another product, confirm authorization with Arista rather than assuming that access to an image grants transfer rights.
