There is no single store for every classic game. Check Nintendo Switch Online for Nintendo libraries, PlayStation Plus Premium for its Classics Catalog, Xbox Game Pass for Retro Classics and supported backward-compatible titles, and licensed PC storefronts such as GOG. Before paying or subscribing, verify the exact game, edition, region, device, and whether access is a purchase, subscription, or stream.
Choose a route based on how you want to play
“Classic” describes an age or style, not a single technical format. An older game may be sold as an individual digital license, included in a subscription catalog, offered only through streaming, or absent from current stores. Libraries, licensing, and supported devices differ by title and region, so search for the game itself rather than assuming an entire platform generation is available.
- Individual purchase: Pay for a listing that supports the platform you intend to use. Check whether it is the original release, a remaster, or a compilation.
- Subscription access: Play while the title remains in the catalog and your membership is active. Catalog membership is not the same as owning a copy.
- Streaming: Play through an internet connection where supported; a streamed game may not be downloadable on your device.
Where to find classic games by platform
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Nintendo Switch Online classic games are accessed through Nintendo Classics apps on the eShop. The standard membership includes NES, Super NES, and Game Boy libraries. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack adds Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis, Game Boy Advance, and Virtual Boy; the GameCube library is exclusive to Switch 2. Check Nintendo’s live catalog and your local eShop for the specific game and supported system.
This is membership access, not an individual purchase of each classic game. Nintendo says access lasts while the relevant membership is active, and offline play requires periodically reconnecting to validate membership. Nintendo’s FAQ says there are no plans to offer the service games outside Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo does not set a schedule for additions, and says the collections continue to grow.

PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC streaming
The PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog is available to Premium members, with some games downloadable and others stream-only. Sony identifies a wide selection of classic PlayStation 3 games as streaming-only. Premium streaming is available on PS4, PS5, and PC subject to title eligibility and requirements; do not assume a streamed title can be downloaded to every device.
Sony’s linked page is for the US. Tiers, titles, and streaming availability vary by territory, and catalog games can change or have removal dates. Confirm the game’s listing, access method, and any listed removal date in your local service before subscribing.

Xbox console, PC, and supported cloud devices
Xbox Game Pass Retro Classics is a subscription collection created with Antstream Arcade. Microsoft described its 2025 launch collection as more than 50 classic Activision games from the 1980s and 1990s, playable through Xbox console, the Xbox PC app, and supported cloud devices. The collection is described as expanding over time; check the app for the current list and device support.

Its launch group comprised four original Xbox games: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. Microsoft said these titles were individually purchasable on PC, included with all Xbox Game Pass plans, and that existing digital console licenses for those games carried over to PC. This is a specific launch offering, not evidence that every Xbox classic is playable on PC. Check the current supported list, region, and product listing before buying.

PC storefronts
GOG Classic games is a useful category to browse for older PC releases. Listings shown when checked included Deus Ex GOTY Edition, Nox, Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete, Fallout, Fallout 2, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GOTY Edition. These are examples, not a complete catalog or a guarantee that a particular game is available. GOG’s Retro category also mixes older releases, reissues, remasters, and newer retro-styled games. Read each product page for the edition and system requirements.
How to check a listing before you buy or subscribe
- Search the exact title in the intended platform’s store or app. A title’s appearance in a category or service announcement does not establish that it is currently available in your region.
- Confirm the edition. Look for whether the listing is the original release, a remaster, a compilation, or an emulated version. Similar names can refer to different products.
- Check the access model. Distinguish an individual purchase from a subscription catalog entry or stream. For subscriptions, check the required tier and whether the title has a removal date.
- Verify device and region support. Check the exact console generation, operating system, local catalog, and any streaming or cloud requirements. Do not infer compatibility from the game’s age or franchise.
- Review practical requirements. Check download size, internet needs, and supported input or controller details on the platform page. Nintendo shows required storage in eShop; it suggests compatible microSD storage if space is short, and specifies microSD Express for Switch 2.
- Compare cost over your expected play period. A one-time purchase and a recurring subscription provide different kinds of access. Compare the subscription cost over the time you expect to play, rather than treating catalog access as ownership.
Why availability differs from one classic game to another
There is no definitive worldwide list of all classic games legally available on modern consoles and PC. Rights and licensing, platform support, region, edition, and service catalog decisions all affect what appears in a store. Official platform figures are scoped to particular offerings: for example, Microsoft’s “more than 50” figure refers to the Retro Classics launch collection, while its four-game figure refers to the July 2026 PC backward-compatibility launch group. They are not counts of all classic games available on Xbox or across platforms. Nintendo publishes no fixed schedule for library additions, and Sony says its catalog varies over time.
