On many Samsung Smart TVs, the physical control is on the underside of the TV, near the center or the lower-right corner. It may be a small button or a joystick-like controller rather than a row of keys, and its position and functions vary by model. Check the TV’s exact model manual if you cannot find it.
Where to look for the physical control
- Check underneath the lower bezel. Look first near the center of the TV’s bottom edge, then toward the lower-right corner. These are common locations in Samsung’s guidance, not a universal map for every model. Samsung Australia’s guide also suggests checking near the red standby light.
- Look for a small multifunction control. It may be a discreet button or a control stick. The Samsung US guide for selected CU7, CU8, Q6*C, S90CA, and S90CD models places the controller on the bottom, in the middle or at the bottom-right corner. The 2018 Q9FN Series manual describes a bottom-mounted control stick.
- Use your model manual if it is not visible. Samsung’s location and function guidance applies to specified models and regions. Find the full model code on the TV’s label or in its settings, then search Samsung Support for the manual for your purchase region.
How to use the button
On the models covered by Samsung’s guidance, pressing the controller turns the TV on when it is off. When the TV is on, pressing it displays a control menu. The available choices depend on the model.
- Press the controller to bring up the menu.
- Press it repeatedly to move through the choices.
- Press and hold to select the highlighted option.
On the 2018 Q9FN control stick, directional movement can adjust volume or channels, while pressing the stick opens the menu. Other Samsung TVs may work differently, so do not force or assume a control’s function.

What the physical control can—and cannot—do
The built-in controller is intended for basic operation, not necessarily every remote function. Samsung notes that some features and settings may be unavailable without a remote. The specific controls offered vary by model; consult the manual if you need a particular function.

Other ways to control the TV
SmartThings
For compatible TVs, Samsung’s Australia guidance describes using the SmartThings app for functions such as changing channels, adjusting volume, and selecting a source. That regional guidance requires a Wi-Fi connection and Samsung account; setup and available controls can vary by TV, phone, and software. See Samsung Australia’s SmartThings instructions.
Mobile Remote on some 2025 models
Samsung UK lists Mobile Remote support for 2025 TVs U8000F or above, selected Smart Monitor models, and The Premiere series. The guide specifies the SmartThings app and Android 11 or later, or iOS 16 or later. These requirements describe that feature and should not be treated as compatibility rules for every Samsung TV or phone-based remote option. See Samsung UK’s Mobile Remote guide.

A compatible replacement remote
If you need controls the panel button does not provide, check the exact TV model before choosing a replacement remote. Compatibility matters, and the physical controller may not offer full access to settings or features.

If you still cannot find or use it
- Inspect the underside near the center and lower-right edge, including around the standby indicator.
- If the TV’s logo or bottom edge is covered by protective film, check whether the film is dimming the screen; Samsung recommends removing it if it is still attached.
- Use the model-specific manual or contact Samsung Support for an illustration and instructions. Button positions, functions, and regional settings can differ.
