Sony does not publish a model-by-model list showing where Xperia phones are assembled. Its corporate manufacturing-site list covers Sony electronics overall, while Sony’s statements about Japan describe Xperia design and development—not the final assembly of every phone. For a specific handset, check the “Made in” marking on the device or its original packaging.
What countries does Sony list as manufacturing locations?
Sony’s corporate Responsible Supply Chain page, dated August 2026, lists electronics manufacturing sites in Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and the UK. It does not assign Xperia phones, or particular Xperia models, to any of those sites.

Sony’s Sustainability Report 2025 gives an earlier snapshot: 11 electronics manufacturing sites as of August 2025 across the same six countries. These are company-wide electronics locations, not a verified list of Xperia assembly plants.
Are Sony Xperia phones made in Japan?
Japan has played a central role in Xperia’s design and development, but that does not establish where a finished phone is assembled. Sony support’s answer, updated March 11, 2025, says people from offices including Sweden, San Francisco, and Japan contributed to Xperia development, with Japan central to design and development. It does not say that every Xperia phone—or any specific model—is made in Japan.

Are Xperia phones made in China or Thailand?
Sony lists electronics manufacturing sites in both China and Thailand, but its public site list does not say that Xperia phones are assembled in either country. Sony’s FY2024 sustainability report also says 49.9% of Sony Group Corporation’s raw-materials-and-parts and OEM/ODM supplier transaction value was attributed to mainland China and Hong Kong. That figure describes supplier transaction value across the group; it is not the proportion of Xperia phones made there, nor a measure of Xperia assembly.
What is known about newer Xperia production?
Sony announced the Xperia 1 VII on May 13, 2025. Its product page and launch announcement identify the handset and discuss its product and design context, but do not name its assembly country.
Android Central reported on May 30, 2025, that Sony appeared to be shifting Xperia production toward third parties, citing changes to Sony factory webpages and reporting by another publication. This is a secondary report of an apparent shift, not Sony confirmation of a specific contractor, factory, or the origin of every model.

- Check the phone. Look for a “Made in” or country-of-origin marking on the handset, including its regulatory or identification labels.
- Check the original box. If the marking is not on the device or is difficult to read, inspect the packaging and its labels.
- Match the exact unit. Record the model and regional SKU as well as the stated origin. A label on one phone identifies that unit, not every Xperia of the same model sold in other markets or production batches.
- Judge factory claims by their evidence. Distinguish an origin marking on your unit from a corporate list of Sony sites, development information, or a report about possible outsourcing. Those sources answer different questions.
The available public information does not establish a verified, model-by-model table of Xperia manufacturing origins. For a particular phone, its own origin marking or original packaging is more specific than Sony’s general manufacturing-site list.
