The expected late-2025 Apple TV 4K refresh did not arrive. As of October 8, 2026, Apple’s cited materials still describe the third-generation model, while a MacRumors report dated October 6 says a new model may launch in October 2026. Apple has not confirmed that timing or the rumored features, so treat the launch window as a possibility—not a release date.
What happened to the late-2025 Apple TV 4K?
The prediction in the original headline is now out of date: late 2025 passed without a new Apple TV 4K announcement. MacRumors reported on December 22, 2025 that no announcement had appeared by then, after speculation about announcements in September and October. Its account also discussed the possibility that Apple might wait for Siri updates, but that was speculation, not an explanation confirmed by Apple. MacRumors’ December 22, 2025 report described A17 Pro and N1 networking chips as rumored possibilities.
By October 6, 2026, MacRumors said an October launch looked likely. That remains secondary reporting: Apple’s cited product page and technical specifications do not announce a fourth-generation model. No confirmed release date or fourth-generation price is established by those official materials.
What Apple has confirmed about the current Apple TV 4K
Apple announced the third-generation Apple TV 4K on October 18, 2022. Its launch configurations paired 64GB of storage with Wi-Fi, or 128GB with Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet; the Ethernet configuration also included Thread. Apple’s current technical specifications continue to list the A15 Bionic chip. The 2022 announcement and current Apple TV 4K specifications are the relevant official references.

Apple’s 2022 launch release also claimed up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to 30 percent faster GPU performance than the preceding generation, nearly 30 percent less power use, and a 25 percent reduction in carbon footprint. Those are Apple-published comparisons, not independent test results.
What is rumored for a fourth-generation model?
Rumors have shifted over time, which is a reason not to treat any specific chip or launch window as settled. On July 8, 2026, MacRumors described a 2026 update as planned and discussed A17 Pro, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, a potentially unchanged design, and a possible connection to smarter Siri features. In its October 6, 2026 guide, MacRumors instead described A19 or A19 Pro and at least 8GB of RAM as likely, alongside Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, Apple Intelligence-related capabilities, and a possible updated Siri Remote. The same report anticipated an October launch. These details remain rumors; Apple has not confirmed the chip, memory, networking, Siri capabilities, remote, design, price, or release timing in the cited official materials. Should you buy the current Apple TV 4K or wait?
The choice depends on whether you need a streaming box now or specifically want to see what a possible refresh brings. The current model is a documented product; the next model’s timing and features are not confirmed by Apple. Use the following checks rather than planning around a rumored date:

- Consider buying now if the current model meets your needs and you do not want to wait on an unconfirmed announcement. Check current retailer price, stock, and exact configuration before ordering; the $129 US starting price in Apple’s October 2022 release is historical, not a current-price quote.
- Consider waiting if you can comfortably postpone the purchase and want to compare an announced successor against the A15 model. Do not assume the rumored chip, Siri features, or connectivity will appear in a shipping product.
- Choose the connection that fits your setup. The launch configurations distinguish Wi-Fi from Wi-Fi plus Gigabit Ethernet. If you need a wired connection, verify that you are selecting the Ethernet configuration rather than assuming both versions have the same ports.
- Check storage and cabling. The 2022 configurations were 64GB and 128GB as listed above. Apple says an HDMI cable is sold separately, so confirm whether your setup already has a suitable cable.
- Confirm the display connection. Apple specifies compatibility with HD and UHD televisions using HDMI.
What to watch for in an official announcement
When Apple announces a successor, compare its published release date, configurations, price, chip, networking, Siri features, and included accessories with the current model. Until then, distinguish Apple’s confirmed A15-based product specifications from the changing expectations in rumor coverage. Apple’s official pages support the current-model facts; the fourth-generation details above are not confirmed product specifications.
