Budget AM5 processors are already on sale. The latest budget-oriented AM5 desktop CPU identified here is AMD’s Ryzen 5 7500, which Tom’s Hardware reported became available at U.S. retailers on September 10, 2026, for $189. AMD has not announced a date for another budget AM5 processor in the official material reviewed. (Tom’s Hardware, September 10, 2026; AMD, Computex 2026

When did the latest budget AM5 processor come out?

Tom’s Hardware reported that AMD launched the Ryzen 5 7500 and that U.S. retailers had it available starting September 10, 2026, at a reported price of $189. That date and price are U.S.-specific reporting, not a universal price or confirmation of current stock. Check local retailer listings for availability and today’s price.

The report describes the Ryzen 5 7500 as a six-core, 12-thread Zen 4 processor for AM5 with basic integrated Radeon graphics. Those graphics can provide display output without a discrete graphics card; the report does not establish gaming performance. Tom’s Hardware’s launch report is the cited source for the model’s reported release timing and price.

Ryzen 5 8500G: an AM5 chip with more substantial integrated graphics

AMD announced its Ryzen 8000G desktop processors for DIY customers and system integrators on January 8, 2024, with availability starting January 31. AMD listed the Ryzen 5 8500G at a $179 suggested e-tail price at launch; that is a 2024 launch-era suggested price, not its current street price. AMD’s announcement gives the availability and launch-price details.

AMD Ryzen™ 5 9600X 6-Core, 12-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor
  • Pure gaming performance with smooth 100+ FPS in the world's most popular games
  • 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 5" architecture
  • 5.4 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 38 MB cache, DDR5-5600 support
  • For the state-of-the-art Socket AM5 platform, can support PCIe 5.0 on select motherboards
  • Cooler not included

AMD’s product page lists the 8500G as an AM5 desktop processor with six cores, 12 threads, Radeon 740M graphics, a 65W default TDP, and a Q1 2024 launch date. Its Radeon 740M graphics distinguish it from the basic display-oriented integrated graphics described in the Ryzen 5 7500 report. Do not assume that all G-series and non-G-series AM5 processors have equivalent graphics. AMD Ryzen 5 8500G specifications

Ryzen 5 7500: a newer low-cost option, but check the graphics use case

The Ryzen 5 7500 is the newer release in the available evidence, while the 8500G’s published model specifications explicitly name Radeon 740M graphics. If you plan to run the PC without a graphics card, verify the exact model’s graphics capability against your needs. If you intend to install a discrete graphics card, compare current local prices and the rest of the system cost rather than treating the 8500G’s historical launch price and the 7500’s reported 2026 price as directly comparable.

Has AMD announced when the next budget AM5 CPU will launch?

No future budget AM5 processor or launch window is named in the official announcements reviewed. AMD’s June 2026 Computex blog says, “With the launch of the Ryzen 7 7700X3D processor, we are extending support for the Socket AM5 platform through 2029.” That is a platform-support commitment, not a promise that a particular low-cost processor will arrive by a particular date. AMD introduced AM5 with Ryzen 7000 in 2022, specified DDR5 memory, and initially described platform longevity as “through 2025 and beyond.” Its newer commitment extends support through 2029. This gives builders a longer stated platform horizon, but does not identify which future CPUs will be released or when. AMD’s 2022 AM5 announcement

Should you buy now or wait?

  • Need a PC now: Compare the Ryzen 5 7500 and Ryzen 5 8500G using current prices in your region, and check whether their integrated graphics suit your intended use.
  • Building without a discrete graphics card: The 8500G’s Radeon 740M graphics are specified by AMD. The 7500 report only characterizes its graphics as basic and useful for display output, so do not rely on it for a graphics-heavy workload without checking further model details.
  • Planning a later CPU upgrade: AMD’s stated AM5 support through 2029 may be relevant to a longer-term build, but it does not guarantee a specific upgrade model or release date.
  • Waiting for a cheaper future chip: There is no announced date to plan around. Waiting could mean an unknown delay; set a budget and a price point that would make a currently available processor worthwhile.
