Adobe Photoshop 27.11 is the September 2026 desktop release. Its headline additions are Enhance Edge for refining selections and an upgraded GPT Image 2 model for Generate Image and Prompt to edit. Adobe also describes a Windows performance optimization, a free way to explore Firefly features in Photoshop, recent-preset management, and fixes for reported issues. Adobe’s release notes describe the features but do not publish independent benchmarks or measured accuracy results.

Adobe’s September 2026 Photoshop desktop release notes identify version 27.11 and list these changes.
Enhance Edge refines difficult selections
Enhance Edge is an AI-powered selection-refinement feature aimed especially at hair, fur, and semi-transparent edges. Adobe says it uses RGBA diffusion to reduce color fringing and capture fine detail. The release notes provide no comparative test or measured accuracy figure, so these are Adobe’s feature descriptions rather than independently verified results.

GPT Image 2 is upgraded for generative editing
The upgraded GPT Image 2 model is available in Generate Image and Prompt to edit. Adobe’s example is changing a jacket while preserving faces, logos, and the surrounding scene. Adobe characterizes the results as more predictable and requiring fewer retries, but publishes no retry counts or benchmark results in the release notes.

Windows gets an optimization without a published score
Adobe says Photoshop on Windows now automatically profiles real-world usage data and feeds it back into production builds, improving performance on common workflows. The release entry gives no numerical improvement or benchmark, so it does not establish how much faster a particular workflow will be.
Free Firefly access is not full Photoshop for free
Adobe describes a no-subscription way to download and sign in to Photoshop Desktop with an email, explore the Firefly Image Editor within Photoshop using daily free AI generations, and preview the full Photoshop experience before upgrading. This is an entry point to Firefly tools and a preview—not a claim that all Photoshop features are free. The release notes do not state a price or subscription terms.

Adobe lists fixes for Canvas Size unit retention; Apply Image preview when using the modern UI with the GPU disabled; default-unit behavior; guide-unit recognition; Stroke color behavior; opacity behavior for images opened through the homescreen; keyboard focus in UXP modals; and Color Balance area-wise averaging. The notes do not provide further reproduction steps for these issues.

What changed in the September 2026 Photoshop release—and what is not measured?
The main practical changes are selection refinement and generative editing, alongside preset management and fixes. The performance and AI descriptions should be read as Adobe’s claims: the release notes do not supply controlled comparisons, accuracy rates, retry counts, or numeric speed gains. That distinction matters if you are deciding whether an update will solve a specific workflow problem; the notes identify the features, not a guaranteed result for every image or computer.

Adobe’s Photoshop system requirements, updated September 15, 2026, apply to Photoshop 27.x and later, rather than being a separate 27.11-only recommendation. For Windows Intel/AMD systems, Adobe lists 8 GB RAM minimum and 16 GB or more recommended. It lists a minimum GPU requirement of DirectX 12 feature level 12_0 or later and 1.5 GB GPU memory; for 4K displays and above, Adobe recommends 4 GB GPU memory. These are compatibility requirements, not performance benchmarks.

Those figures are not a complete compatibility check. Before updating, consult Adobe’s current requirements table for your platform, including its operating-system, processor instruction-set, and GPU-age conditions. If your computer meets the baseline but has limited memory or graphics capacity, the published minimum alone does not predict how smoothly a particular project will run.
