On macOS Golden Gate (macOS 27), Apple’s Notes guide documents drawing directly in a note with Markup tools for freehand sketches, shapes, lines, and text boxes. Apple’s release summary does not identify a separate Notes-specific launch, however, so the guide confirms what Notes can do—not which capabilities arrived with macOS 27.
What’s documented for Notes in macOS 27?
Apple’s Notes User Guide for macOS 27 describes several ways to capture and work with information. The standout capability for a “what’s new” question is drawing on the Mac: Apple writes, “Sketch an idea right in your note on Mac.”
Draw and mark up a note
Open the Markup palette to sketch freehand, add shapes or lines, and place a text box on the page. This gives you a way to put visual ideas alongside typed notes without treating every note as plain text. Apple’s guide documents the workflow; it does not say that a particular Mac model, stylus, or other accessory is required.
Record audio and search transcripts
Notes can record an audio session inside a note and generate a live transcript. Apple says the resulting transcripts are searchable, which can help you locate words in recorded material. The guide lists this capability but does not establish when it was introduced.

Calculate inline
Type an equals sign after an arithmetic expression or more complex calculation, including expressions that use variables, and Notes can evaluate it inline. The macOS 27 guide documents this behavior but does not identify it as a new feature in this release.
Emphasize text and attach files
The guide also covers a highlight style for drawing attention to note text, plus attachments such as pictures, videos, PDFs, and other files. You can add content from apps including Safari and Maps. These are documented Notes capabilities, not confirmed macOS 27 additions.

Which of these features are actually new?
Apple’s macOS Golden Gate product page and macOS 27 release summary do not provide a separate list of Notes changes. The guide establishes that drawing, transcripts, calculations, highlighting, and attachments are documented for Notes in macOS 27; it does not establish that all—or any specific one besides the documented drawing capability—were first introduced in this version. Treat them as available capabilities rather than a definitive list of new features.

Apple dates macOS Golden Gate 27’s release to September 14, 2026. Its summary describes system-level features and refinements, while the listed macOS 27.0.1 update is described as a bug-fix release; neither supplies a Notes-specific change history.

How Siri fits into Notes
Apple describes Siri AI as able to use personal context to find a note saved on a Mac. That is an operating-system discovery feature, not a Notes editing tool or a Notes-specific change identified in the release summary. The product page does not establish that Siri can edit a note as part of this capability.
