Work IQ is Microsoft’s business and workplace intelligence layer for grounding Copilot and agents in organizational knowledge, business data, relationships, and processes. For Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management customers, it is intended to give those assistants reusable business context—not replace the applications that hold the official records.
What Work IQ adds to Dynamics 365
Microsoft describes Work IQ as connecting Copilot and agents to organizational knowledge, context, people, work, and business application data. In the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform setting, it adds meaning to business data: how records relate, and what processes and rules shape the work.
That distinction matters. An assistant that can retrieve a record has data; one grounded in business context can make sense of the record’s relationships and the process around it. Microsoft presents Work IQ as a way to make that understanding available as reusable context for Copilot and agents. [Microsoft’s Work IQ overview]

Microsoft says Work IQ business-application scenarios can span sales, service, finance, operations, and supply chain. Its broader data picture includes Dynamics 365 ERP apps, Power Apps, and third-party line-of-business applications. For Finance and Supply Chain Management teams, the intended benefit is context that can connect work across functions rather than treating each request as an isolated lookup.
#1 Best Overall
The Finance and Supply Chain Management applications remain the systems of record. Work IQ is described as modeling their data and processes into business understanding that Copilot and agents can use; it is not presented as a replacement ledger, inventory system, or operational database. How agent actions are supposed to be governed
Microsoft describes actions that can propose changes, follow required approval steps, and update source records within the user’s permissions. That is a product description of the intended governance model, not confirmation that every Finance or Supply Chain Management workflow can be changed by an agent.
Rank #2
Before relying on an agent for a business process, identify the specific experience and action, the records it can affect, the user permissions it uses, and any approval controls. Microsoft’s descriptions do not establish that configuration work disappears, that compliance is guaranteed, or that every action is safe by default.
Preview timing and customer availability
Microsoft’s September 25, 2026 announcement said the public preview would start September 30, with rollout continuing throughout October 2026. Because that is a staged rollout, the announcement does not establish that Work IQ is available to every customer. Confirm the current status for your tenant, region, licensing, and feature prerequisites in Microsoft’s current guidance and tenant notices before planning a deployment. Microsoft Learn’s release-plan material discusses Dataverse integration, reusable skills, business context, and agent identity. It cautions that some functionality may not have been released and timelines can change, so roadmap entries should not be treated as proof of general availability. [Microsoft Learn release plan]
