A Wild Rift champion tier is a context-dependent estimate of relative strength or reliability—not a universal grade, a guarantee of victory, or a measure of how good you are. Its usefulness depends on who published it, the patch, role, rank, region, matchup, team composition, and your experience on the champion.
What a champion tier means
Community tier lists summarize how strong or reliable a champion appears within a particular frame. That frame may include a patch, role, rank bracket, region, match statistics, pick and ban rates, trends, or a creator’s judgment. Because publishers choose different frames and methods, an S tier on one site does not necessarily mean the same thing as an S tier on another.
Lists that use ranked statistics
WR-Meta says its rankings are specific to role and rank bracket. It identifies win rate as its primary factor, with pick rate, ban rate, and performance trend as additional context. The site also says a tier reflects overall reliability rather than an individual player’s skill. Its displayed update field is blank, so the page does not establish when that snapshot was last updated.
Lists based on qualitative assessment
WildRiftFire’s Patch 7.3a list organizes champions by role and uses S+, S, A, B, and C labels with qualitative explanations. It names iTzSTU4RT as the list maintainer, but the reviewed page does not describe a statistical calculation. Do not assume its labels are directly comparable to another publisher’s tiers.

How community tiers differ from Riot’s ratings and ranked tiers
Riot uses similar words for different systems. In its September 21, 2026 Patch 7.3 notes, Riot describes S/A performance ratings in Ranked and Legendary Ranked as comparisons between players using the same champion. The evaluation accounts for role responsibilities and team contributions. Those ratings assess a player’s performance; they are not a community ranking of champions.
Ranked and Legendary Ranked tiers, meanwhile, track player progression. Riot’s September 14, 2026 ranked-progression explanation describes the aim of recognizing factors beyond kills, including decision-making, objective control, teamwork, vision, and map play. Neither progression ranks nor in-game performance ratings should be read as an outside publisher’s champion tier list.

Why role, matchup, and team composition can change a pick’s value
A tier compresses a lot of context into one label. A champion can be highly effective in one role and merely average in another because opponents, builds, team needs, and pick-and-ban pressure change by role. A strong general ranking cannot tell you by itself whether a champion fits the specific draft in front of you.

A mid-lane placement does not establish its standing in another role.
- Matchup: The opposing champion and team composition affect how readily your pick can do its job. An overall tier is not a matchup result.
- Allied composition: Consider whether your team needs the role or contribution the pick provides, and whether it can function alongside your allies.
- Player proficiency: A list’s estimate of a champion’s potential does not account for how practiced or comfortable you are on that champion.
- Availability: Ban pressure can affect whether a planned pick is realistic; have a second option you can play comfortably.
How to use a tier list when choosing a champion
- Match the role and rank. Start with a list for the role you intend to play and, if available, a rank bracket close to yours. Role-specific rankings and results from different rank groups are not automatically interchangeable.
- Check patch, date, and region. Confirm what balance state the list covers. A list may not reflect a later balance adjustment, and a regional snapshot may not match your server.
- Check what the label represents. Look for whether the publisher uses ranked outcomes, pick and ban rates, trends, editorial assessment, or a combination. A qualitative label and a statistical relative ranking answer different questions.
- Apply it to the draft. Ask whether the pick suits the enemy matchup and gives your team what it needs. Treat the tier as one input, not an instruction to ignore the rest of the composition.
- Factor in your own comfort and bans. A strong option you cannot play well may be less useful to you than a familiar alternative. Consider whether the champion is likely to be unavailable.
Why patch and region checks matter
Tier lists can become stale when champion balance changes. Riot’s September 29, 2026 Patch 7.3a notes include follow-up adjustments to Hwei, Samira, Rammus, and Malphite. Riot said Hwei’s damage was reduced because its performance had continued to rise as players mastered its kit. A ranking made before a follow-up patch may not reflect the current balance state.

Riot’s Patch 7.3 notes also say that Platinum through Diamond Ranked matches moved from three bans per team to five. That change gives teams more strategic choice over picks and compositions, so ban pressure is part of the draft context rather than a permanent property of a champion.
What a regional statistics snapshot can—and cannot—tell you
Wild Rift Hub, an unofficial fan site, reports a China-server Master+ snapshot dated October 3, 2026. In that snapshot, Hwei in mid was ranked OP with a 74.8% ban rate and a 55.3% win rate. The site says its ranking is relative within each role, not a simple ordering by win rate, and warns that China-server patch timing and balance can differ from the global version. These figures illustrate why scope and measurement matter; they are not global rates or a universal recommendation.

The reviewed official Riot pages explain rating systems and patch changes, but do not provide a complete public global matchup dataset. The regional example should therefore not be generalized to other servers, ranks, roles, or matchups.

A practical rule for reading tiers
Compare lists only when their patch or date, region, rank bracket, role, and methods are meaningfully aligned. Then use the tier as a signal about relative performance within that frame and make the actual pick based on the matchup, team composition, availability, and your proficiency. Riot’s Patch 7.3 Champion Score discussion puts the team-oriented principle plainly: “Your champion choice should be about what gives your team the best chance to win—not protecting a number.”
