Hindustan Times reported that officials seized 1.243 kg of suspected cannabis extract, described as hashish, from a passenger’s checked baggage at Pune airport on October 2, 2026. According to Hindustan Times, Pune Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s Pune regional unit intercepted an Indian woman arriving from Bangkok on October 2, 2026. The report identifies the flight as Air India Express IX-241.
The report says officials acted after behavioural profiling and suspicious baggage screening. They examined her checked baggage after procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and allegedly found the material in three commercial cosmetic jars.

Has the substance been confirmed as hashish?
Not by a final laboratory result in the account. Hindustan Times described the recovered material as waxy and semi-solid, with a pungent odour, and reported that a preliminary Narcotic Drug Field Testing Kit test indicated cannabis. That is a reported preliminary field-test result, not final forensic identification.
Was the passenger convicted?
No conviction or later court outcome was reported. Hindustan Times said the woman was arrested and that the investigation was continuing. The report describes an allegation and seizure; it does not establish guilt, formal charges, or the case’s eventual outcome.
