Amazon Chime was AWS’s cloud communications service for meetings, voice and video calls, chat, and content sharing. AWS announced it in February 2017, but ended support for the Chime service—including Business Calling—on February 20, 2026. The separate Amazon Chime SDK was not affected, so it is important not to confuse the retired end-user service with the still-distinct SDK. AWS’s support update states the end date and distinction.
What was Amazon Chime?
Amazon Chime was a managed cloud communications service from Amazon Web Services (AWS). It let people host or join meetings, make voice and video calls, chat, and share screens or other content through desktop and mobile applications. Amazon’s February 14, 2017 launch announcement described use across desktop, iOS, and Android; AWS’s February 13 availability post also listed meeting scheduling and hosting, recording, and personalized meeting URLs in Pro. Amazon’s launch announcement and AWS’s availability post describe the service as it launched.
“UCaaS” means unified communications as a service: communication tools delivered over the internet rather than through an organization’s own on-premises phone and conferencing systems. Chime combined several of those tools in one cloud service. It was software, not a dedicated Amazon meeting-room device.

Is Amazon Chime still supported?
No. AWS stopped accepting new Chime customers on February 19, 2025, and ended support for Amazon Chime, including Business Calling, on February 20, 2026. Existing Team and Enterprise customers created before February 19, 2025 could use the service only until that end date. AWS says that, after the cutoff, users can no longer host meetings, manage users, or use Business Calling through the service. AWS’s February 19, 2025 notice sets out the timeline.

The Chime service and Chime SDK are different
The end-of-support notice applies to the Amazon Chime end-user service; it does not mean the Amazon Chime SDK was discontinued. AWS explicitly said the SDK’s availability was not affected. The SDK is a separate development offering, not a way to continue using the retired Chime apps and service. Check AWS’s current SDK documentation for its present availability and terms rather than relying on the old Chime service.
What did Amazon Chime include at launch?
Chime launched with Basic, Plus, and Pro editions. The following is a historical comparison: the features and prices are from Amazon’s 2017 launch announcement, not a current offer. AWS’s separate 2017 availability post emphasized some edition capabilities differently, so the table attributes the details to Amazon’s launch description rather than treating every launch statement as a single definitive feature matrix.

| 2017 edition | Features described in Amazon’s February 14, 2017 announcement | Launch price |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Attend meetings; make person-to-person voice or video calls; use messaging and chat. | No price stated in the launch announcement. |
| Plus | Administration features including managing an email domain and configuring Active Directory; 1 GB of message retention per user. | $2.50 per user per month, as announced in 2017. |
| Pro | Host meetings with screen sharing and video for up to 100 users; support for mobile, laptop, and in-room video; unlimited VoIP support. | $15 per user per month, as announced in 2017. |
These are launch-era descriptions only. AWS’s February 13, 2017 availability post also described Basic as allowing one-to-one voice and video calls and chat, Plus as adding screen sharing and company-directory integration, and Pro as supporting meetings for up to 100 people. The service has since ended support, so none of these tiers or prices should be read as available today. Amazon’s 2017 release and AWS’s availability announcement are the dated sources for these details.
What should former Chime users consider?
AWS’s transition guide names AWS Wickr and partner solutions Slack, Webex, and Zoom as possible alternatives. It does not compare them or identify a best choice for a particular organization. Teams evaluating a replacement should check each vendor’s current offering against their own needs, especially meetings, chat, business calling, administration, and migration requirements. AWS’s transition guide lists the options it names.
