A PS5 uses an AC power cord that plugs into the console’s AC IN port. The console-end connector is commonly identified as an IEC C7 figure-eight connector, though Sony’s support pages reviewed here do not name that standard. Sony advises using the cord included with the console.
What the PS5 power cord is called
The cord is an AC mains power cord, not a USB cable or a separate adapter for the console. Sony’s setup instructions show the cord connecting to the port labeled “AC IN” and then to an electricity supply. Sony also says, “Use the included cables.” PlayStation Support
A replacement-cord guide identifies the console-end connector as IEC 60320 C7, commonly called a figure-eight connector. That identification comes from the guide, not from Sony; Sony’s support and safety pages reviewed here do not specify the connector standard. Kicks & Grips’ PS5 power cord guide

What to know before replacing one
- Use the included cord when possible. Sony’s safety guide says, “Do not use a power cord other than the included AC power cord.” Sony’s CFI-70XX PS5 Safety Guide
- Do not use a damaged or modified cord. If the original cord is damaged, stop using it and contact the appropriate PlayStation customer-service helpline for guidance, as Sony’s safety material directs.
- Match both ends. If you are identifying a replacement, check for the C7 figure-eight console connector and a wall plug suitable for your country. Wall-plug styles vary by region; a console-end match alone is not enough.
- Check the product’s stated ratings and safety markings. Do not assume every cable advertised as “C7” is suitable for your console or region, and do not treat a third-party listing as Sony-endorsed.
Power cords and voltage converters are not interchangeable
Sony warns against using voltage transformers or inverters with the console and says not to use a cord other than the one included. Replacing a damaged cord is not a reason to add a voltage converter; if you are unsure what is safe for your console or location, consult PlayStation support.

How to identify the right cord
- Look at the console’s power connection, labeled AC IN.
- For connector identification, compare the console end with an IEC C7 figure-eight connector, as identified by the replacement guide.
- Make sure the other end matches the wall outlet used in your country.
- Follow Sony’s guidance to use the included cord; do not use any cord that is damaged or modified.
