At the Los Angeles premiere of Digger, Tom Cruise briefly spoke with reporter Courtney Echerd after noticing her crutches. Hindustan Times reported that Echerd shared a video of the exchange on social media; its account describes a short, friendly conversation, not an extended interview.

Hindustan Times entertainment journalist Monica Yadav reported on October 2, 2026, that the exchange took place at the Digger premiere in Los Angeles on September 28. The report says Echerd shared a clip of the moment on social media. Hindustan Times links to her Instagram post, but the video itself has not been independently verified here, so the quoted lines are best understood as the outlet’s account of the exchange.

Echerd captioned her TikTok clip: “pov: tom cruise notices your rare amputation and is gagged”. “Gagged” is her playful wording for the moment, not a separate statement from Cruise. In an Instagram post quoted by Hindustan Times, she wrote: “Tom Cruise was so kind to truly every news outlet and fan at the Digger premiere.” That is Echerd’s own characterization of the event; the brief clip and report do not independently establish how Cruise interacted with everyone there.

Who is Courtney Echerd?
Hindustan Times describes Echerd as a 30-year-old digital media professional and an osteosarcoma hemipelvectomy amputee. Those personal and medical details are attributed to the outlet’s report. The exchange itself centers on her crutches and her remark about following her dreams onto the carpet.
What is Digger?
Digger is a dark comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an eccentric billionaire oil tycoon whose actions lead to a global catastrophe. The cast reported by Hindustan Times also includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons and Emma D’Arcy.
The outlet describes the film as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.” It also quotes Iñárritu reflecting on its development: “We learned that reality gives us events, but it’s imagination that allows us to recognize ourselves in them.” Hindustan Times reports that Iñárritu said the screenplay work with Sabina Berman began in 2017; its article also characterizes the project as having a long development, so those remarks do not establish a precise development duration.
When did Digger reach theaters?
Hindustan Times reported that Digger opened in theaters and IMAX on October 2, 2026. Its report does not identify a streaming or home-media release.
