Music Center for PC is Sony’s successor to Media Go for music management and transfers to supported audio devices, especially Walkman players—but it does not replace Media Go’s photo or video tools. If you used Media Go for another kind of device or task, the right alternative depends on what you need to manage.
Why Media Go was discontinued
Sony ended Media Go downloads after December 2017 and stopped providing support and updates in January 2018. Sony described Music Center for PC as the replacement for similar music-management functions. Sony’s discontinuation notice and its later support information establish that history; they do not establish current compatibility for every computer or device model.
Sony’s Ireland announcement set out the discontinuation timeline, while Sony’s support notice describes the successor and alternatives for some legacy-device workflows.

What Music Center for PC does—and does not—replace
Music playback and transfers
Sony describes Music Center for PC as software for playing and managing songs on a computer and transferring songs to audio devices such as Walkman. Sony also highlights enhanced support for Walkman and Hi-Res Audio-compatible devices. Its comparison lists high-resolution audio playback, including FLAC and DSD.

That makes it the closest Sony-named replacement when your main job was organizing music or transferring tracks to a supported audio device. Confirm that your particular Walkman or other player and your current computer setup are supported rather than assuming compatibility from the product category.
Photos, videos, podcasts, and metadata
Music Center for PC is audio-focused. Sony says it omits the photo and video functions available in Media Go; its comparison also identifies differences involving movie and podcast functions and metadata behavior. It should not be treated as a complete migration path for a library that depended on those features.

Sony’s comparison does not establish a universal replacement for every omitted function. For photo and video management, or for a particular podcast or metadata workflow, select software based on that specific task and verify that it handles the files and devices you use.

- If you mainly managed music for a Walkman or another audio device: start with Sony’s Music Center for PC information. Check the current requirements and the support status of your exact device before installing or moving a library.
- If you used Media Go with an Xperia device, PSP, Sony tablet, or another manufacturer’s phone: Sony named Windows Media Player as an alternative. Treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee of equivalent syncing or library management; verify the model-specific workflow.
- If you relied on photos, videos, podcasts, or particular metadata handling: identify that function separately and choose a tool that supports it. Music Center for PC does not cover all of Media Go’s former functions.
What is established about compatibility today
Sony’s discontinuation dates are clear, but the cited notices and comparison do not establish comprehensive current operating-system requirements or compatibility for every legacy device. A historical recommendation is not proof that a current installation will work with a particular computer, phone, tablet, PSP, or Walkman. Check Sony’s current information for Music Center for PC and the documentation for the exact device before depending on a transfer or library workflow.
