Medieval Times welcomes children of every age, but the right visit depends on your child’s tolerance for a loud, enclosed live show with horses, staged combat, stroboscopic lighting and pyrotechnic effects. Plan on roughly two hours at the castle, even though the performance itself is listed as approximately 90 minutes. Children under three may attend free only while sitting on an adult’s lap and sharing that adult’s meal; a child who needs a separate seat and meal requires a child ticket.

Is Medieval Times suitable for children?

The venue presents its dinner tournament as family entertainment and states that guests of all ages are welcome. That policy answers the age question, not the comfort question. Before buying tickets, consider whether your child can remain seated through a sustained performance and whether they enjoy noise, crowds, horses and theatrical fighting.

What children will see and hear

  • Jousting, swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat presented as staged competition.
  • Live horses moving and performing inside an enclosed arena.
  • Falconry demonstrations.
  • Stroboscopic (strobe) lighting, confirmed in the official FAQ.
  • Pyrotechnic effects disclosed in the venue’s terms.

These are theatrical effects, but they are still real sensory inputs. A child who is frightened by sudden bangs, flashing lights, darkness, animal smells or mock combat may have a difficult time even if they otherwise enjoy medieval themes.

Medical and sensory considerations

The venue’s terms describe an enclosed live horse show and caution guests with respiratory conditions, allergies or asthma to attend at their own risk. A food substitution does not remove possible exposure to hay, horse dander, dust, smoke or theatrical effects. Ask the chosen castle about current accommodations before purchasing if your child has a seizure disorder, severe sensory sensitivity, asthma, significant allergies or another condition affected by light, sound or animals.

What age needs a ticket?

Medieval Times says children under three are admitted free only when they sit on an adult’s lap and eat from the adult’s plate. That is a lap-and-shared-meal arrangement, not a free individual place.

Child’s situation Ticket treatment
Under 3, on an adult’s lap and sharing the adult’s meal Free admission under the venue’s stated rule
Under 3, needing a separate seat and meal Child rate applies
Age 3 or older Book the applicable child ticket shown for the castle and date

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to enter. Guests age 16 and older may enter independently, according to the FAQ. Bring the booking information and any identification requested in the confirmation email.

How long should your family plan to be there?

The official FAQ lists the show at approximately 90 minutes. The venue’s broader experience overview describes a two-hour experience, which includes more than the performance itself. Use the two-hour window when planning transportation, meals and bedtime; do not treat 90 minutes as the total time inside the property.

Arrival timing

Door-opening times vary by castle and show. The FAQ directs guests to their confirmation email and recommends arriving when doors open. Buena Park’s visitor information, for example, says its gates open 60 minutes before showtime. That one-hour figure should not be applied automatically to another location.

Arriving at opening gives your group time to park, pass entry screening, find assigned seats, use the restroom and settle a child before the lights dim. Late arrivals may have to wait for an appropriate pause in the performance.

How tickets, seating and packages work

Reservations are strongly recommended because seating is limited. Make one reservation for everyone who needs to sit together. Separate reservations may be placed together only when package type and availability permit it; the FAQ does not guarantee that outcome.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assigned seating

Seating is assigned according to package selection and group size. Review the seating description before checkout rather than assuming every section has the same view or distance from the arena. If your child needs accessible seating, the FAQ says it can be selected online or requested from staff.

Package differences

Package names and benefits are not uniform across castles. The Orlando location illustrates possible extras such as preferred or VIP seating, priority access, banners, photographs and cake, but those examples do not establish what another castle sells. Check the live ticket flow for the exact location and date. Current prices and package availability were not established in the venue information used here, so do not rely on an old screenshot or a price quoted for another city.

Changing a reservation

Tickets are described as non-refundable but may be rescheduled to another day, subject to availability and fees. Read the confirmation and change terms before committing to a date, especially if a child’s health or schedule is uncertain.

What food do children receive?

The standard feast is presented as four courses. The menu description includes garlic bread, tomato bisque, roasted chicken, corn, herb-basted potatoes, dessert, coffee and two rounds of selected non-alcoholic beverages. Service is part of the performance, so food arrives on the venue’s schedule rather than whenever a child is hungry.

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals

The official FAQ lists vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Tell your server about the requirement or contact the castle before the visit with specific questions about ingredients and preparation. A general category such as “gluten-free” may not answer cross-contact concerns, so families with celiac disease or severe allergies should request the location’s current procedure.

Infants, snacks and gratuity

Outside food and beverages are not allowed under the FAQ. This matters for toddlers who rely on familiar snacks: ask the castle in advance what, if anything, can be accommodated rather than bringing food to the door. Gratuity is not included in the ticket price; budget for it separately.

Meal accommodations address the menu only. They do not eliminate the horse, dust, smoke or other environmental exposures described in the venue’s terms.

What should children wear and bring?

The general FAQ describes casual dress and says the castles are indoors and climate-controlled. Comfortable clothes and shoes are sensible because families may walk from parking, wait in entry areas and remain seated for the full show.

  • Avoid obstructive headwear that blocks another guest’s view.
  • Do not use a full-face mask or costume that prevents identification.
  • Leave toy or real weapons at home. Buena Park’s local guidance bans weapons, including fake weapons.
  • Do not bring outside food, beverages, cakes, desserts or balloons where the local guide prohibits them.
  • Carry only items allowed by the chosen castle’s current entry rules.

Rules can be stricter at an individual location. Buena Park’s list is local guidance, not a universal policy for every castle, so check the location page and confirmation email immediately before departure.

Parking and location differences

Operational details differ by castle. The general FAQ says castles other than Toronto offer free on-site parking. Toronto instead has public lots on the grounds with seasonal rates. Opening times, menus, package benefits, prohibited items and entry procedures can also change by location.

Use the exact castle’s official visitor information for the final plan. A policy stated for Buena Park should not be assumed for Orlando, Toronto or another venue.

A practical booking plan for families

  1. Choose the castle and date. Confirm the local showtime, gate-opening time, parking arrangement and current package inventory.
  2. Decide whether the child needs an individual place. For a child under three, choose between the free lap-and-shared-meal rule and a paid child ticket with a separate seat and meal.
  3. Check the sensory fit. Discuss flashing lights, loud effects, horses and staged fighting in age-appropriate language. Contact the castle about medical or accessibility concerns.
  4. Book one reservation for the whole party. This gives the venue the clearest chance to assign seats together.
  5. Select seating and package benefits deliberately. Compare the inclusions shown for that castle rather than relying on another location’s package name.
  6. Submit dietary information. Request vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free service before arrival and ask detailed allergy questions when needed.
  7. Read the confirmation. Note door time, parking instructions, rescheduling terms and any prohibited-item list.
  8. Arrive when doors open. Allow time for parking, entry, restrooms and settling children before the performance begins.
  9. Plan the exit. A two-hour visit plus travel may run past a young child’s normal meal or bedtime; arrange transportation and snacks for after you leave, not for inside the castle.

Which children may need extra preparation?

Child profile Preparation that can help Question to resolve first
Toddler under 3 Practice sitting on a lap and explain that the adult’s meal will be shared Will the child realistically remain on a lap for the performance?
Child sensitive to light or sound Describe strobe lighting, loud effects and darkness; choose an aisle or accessible arrangement if available Can the castle explain its accessibility or seating options for this need?
Child with asthma or allergies Bring prescribed medication according to your clinician’s plan and discuss the enclosed horse environment with the castle Are the horse, dust and pyrotechnic exposures acceptable for the child?
Selective eater or child with dietary restrictions Request the appropriate meal in advance and explain ingredients that must be avoided What preparation and cross-contact controls does this location provide?
Child who dislikes pretend fighting Explain that combat is choreographed theater, while acknowledging that it may still look intense Will the child enjoy watching a tournament centered on staged combat?

What souvenirs can children buy?

The official FAQ says the gift shop sells medieval toy weapons and costumes. Treat a medieval toy sword as an optional souvenir for use at home, not an item to carry into the castle. Buena Park explicitly prohibits real and fake weapons, so purchase and transport rules matter even for plastic toys.

Questions to verify before checkout

  • What time do doors open for this exact show, and what time should the party arrive?
  • Does the selected package provide the seating position and extras your group expects?
  • Can the castle accommodate your child’s dietary, medical or accessibility needs?
  • What parking is available, and does it have a fee?
  • Which items are prohibited at this location today?
  • What rescheduling fee and availability limits apply if plans change?

The safest family plan is to treat the FAQ as a starting point and confirm any location-specific detail in the castle’s current confirmation and visitor instructions.
