Before choosing a range, check what your kitchen can support: gas ranges need natural gas or propane service, while conventional electric and induction ranges need a 240-volt electrical line. Then weigh cooking response, cookware compatibility, ventilation, fit, and the full installation cost. No fuel type is best for every kitchen or cook, and results vary by model.
Start with the connection your kitchen has
Confirm the required utility connection before comparing models. A gas range uses natural gas or propane; an electric range uses a 240-volt line. Induction is also electric and needs that same type of line. If your kitchen lacks the connection for a range you are considering, conversion work may affect the budget and feasibility.
For a gas-to-electric or gas-to-induction change, have a qualified professional assess the wiring, electrical service, and installation requirements before ordering. The actual work and cost depend on the home’s panel and wiring, local labor, and the installation scope; there is no universal installation price.

How gas, radiant electric, and induction cook
| Type | How it cooks | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Gas | Burns natural gas or propane to produce a flame, giving visible feedback and immediate burner response. | Confirm gas service, range compatibility, and a ventilation plan. |
| Radiant electric | Heats elements beneath a glass surface. The surface retains residual heat after you change the setting. | Confirm the 240-volt connection and consider whether residual heat and slower temperature changes suit your cooking. |
| Induction | Uses electric coils beneath glass to create a magnetic field that heats compatible cookware directly. | Confirm the 240-volt connection and test your pans with a magnet. |
Gas: visible flame and ventilation
A gas flame makes burner activity easy to see, and the burner responds immediately when adjusted. Because gas cooking involves combustion, ventilation matters. Consumer Reports advises using a range hood and opening windows and doors while cooking with gas. The U.S. Department of Energy identifies nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde among pollutants associated with burning gas for cooking. Ventilation guidance is not a guarantee that emissions are eliminated.

Radiant electric: residual heat on the glass
Radiant electric ranges use heating elements beneath a smooth glass surface. The surface can remain hot after you lower or turn off a setting, so it does not respond to adjustments in the same way induction does.
Induction: direct heat, compatible pans
Induction heats the cookware rather than first heating a burner surface. A magnet that sticks to the base of a pan is a quick compatibility check; many stainless-steel and cast-iron pans work. Check individual pieces rather than assuming every pan in a set is suitable.

- 5.0 CU FT FRONT CONTROL OVEN: 5.0 cu. ft. oven capacity is ideal for cooking family meals and large gatherings, offering plenty of room for multiple dishes; measures 29.9" W x 25" L x 36" H
- 4-ELEMENT INDUCTION COOKTOP: Advanced induction cooking technology offers speed and precision unmatched by traditional gas or electric cooktops. Four dual ring elements give you cooking flexibility to align the wattage to the right task.
- TURBO BOIL ELEMENT: High-powered 3000 Watt Turbo Boil element really turns up the heat for fast boiling, stir-frying and searing, so you can get that perfect crunchy texture.
- TRUE CONVECTION & AIR FRY: True Convection uses a fan and third heating element for fast preheating and even cooking on every rack. In-oven Air Fry with basket creates crowd favorites that are crispy and crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, without the need for a separate appliance.
- EASY CLEAN & SELF-CLEAN OVEN: Since the induction cooktop itself doesn’t get hot, any spills or splatters are easily wiped away. Self-clean function saves time and effort when your oven needs a complete clean.
Induction’s efficiency figures describe energy transfer, not a guaranteed reduction in a household’s utility bill. ENERGY STAR says about 85% of heating energy is transferred to the cookware with induction, compared with about one-third for gas cooking products; its page gives a specification effective date of September 25, 2023. The Department of Energy says induction can be up to three times more efficient than gas stoves and up to 10% more efficient than conventional smooth-top electric ranges. It also reports that Consumer Reports found induction boiled water 20–40% faster than tested gas and traditional electric cooktops. These are attributed comparisons, not promises for every range or cooking task.
Compare the cooking experience you want
- Response: Induction heats cookware directly and responds quickly. Gas offers immediate burner response and visible flame feedback. Radiant electric retains heat after a setting change.
- Cookware: Induction requires compatible pans; test your existing cookware before buying and account for any pieces you may need to replace.
- Model performance: Fuel type alone does not establish how well a range cooks. Consumer Reports’ 2026 roundup describes laboratory testing across range types, and performance varies among models. Compare evidence for the exact models you are considering rather than relying on brand-wide claims or price alone.
Check fit and compare the whole purchase
Measure the existing space and compare it with the exact model’s manufacturer installation instructions. Check width, depth, height, controls, and required clearances. Also compare oven capacity, baking results, low-heat control, cleaning features, and warranty—not just the cooktop label.

Include delivery, haul-away, and installation terms in the total. Induction ranges typically cost more than conventional electric models, according to Consumer Reports, and a change from gas may require electrical work. Costs vary with the home and location. Rebate amounts and eligibility also vary by program and location; confirm current details with official federal, state, or utility sources rather than assuming an older incentive still applies.
Quick Recap

- Total Convection System: Fan‑assisted convection for even baking, roasting, and improved heat distribution.
Rank #4
- FAST & EFFICIENT COOKTOP - Induction cooking eliminates open flames and heats only the pan, keeping the surrounding area cool. It cooks faster and more efficiently than traditional burners, saving both time and energy in the kitchen.
- INTELLIGENT DYNAMIC WATT TECHNOLOGY - Unlike standard portable cooktops that split power evenly, Dynamic Watt Technology intelligently distributes energy between both burners. Rapidly boil water on one side while maintaining a gentle simmer on the other without sacrificing performance.
- ADVANCED PRECISION HEATING - Choose from 5 preset temperatures or customize between 50°F to 575°F in 5-degree increments. The Precision Key gradually increases heat to better maintain your selected cooking temperature. Enjoy more controlled results for recipes that require steady, even heat like steak, chocolate, and more.
- ADVANCED SEAMLESS IMD TOUCH PANEL - The integrated IMD structure creates a smooth, edge-to-edge glass surface with responsive touch controls. The seamless design prevents food or debris from collecting in gaps while protecting internal components from spills.
- TRUE INDEPENDENT DUAL-ZONE COOKING - Each burner operates with its own dedicated controls, allowing you to cook two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously. Perfect for multitasking meals or preparing sauces and sides alongside your main course.
