The series described as an HBO Max alternative to MobLand is This City Is Ours, a Liverpool-set crime drama—not a new season or spin-off of MobLand. A 2025 syndicated report said it had reached seventh place on HBO’s worldwide chart, but that is a dated, secondhand ranking, not evidence that the show currently dominates streaming charts.

What is the crime series compared with MobLand?

This City Is Ours is a Liverpool gangland drama created by Stephen Butchard and starring Sean Bean as crime boss Ronnie Phelan, according to the syndicated report that framed it as a spiritual successor for MobLand viewers. That comparison describes a viewing recommendation, not a formal connection between the productions.

No source establishes a production, sequel, or rights relationship between the shows. Paramount identifies MobLand as its own Paramount+ series. Paramount+’s MobLand page provides the official series information.

Did This City Is Ours top a global streaming chart?

A syndicated 2025 report said This City Is Ours was seventh on HBO’s worldwide chart “as of this week,” citing FlixPatrol. The accessible records do not establish the exact date of that ranking or its underlying viewing totals, and the historical position has not been independently reproduced here. It is best understood as a report of a chart position at that time—not a current ranking or a verified audience total. The indexed report and a second index record associate the headline with 2025, but give inconsistent publication dates.

Chart positions depend on who compiles the chart, where it applies, and what period it measures. For example, FlixPatrol’s worldwide monthly page showed MobLand at No. 1 for October 2026 when crawled on October 8, 2026. JustWatch’s U.S. monthly show chart listed MobLand at No. 10 on October 8, 2026. Those ranks refer to different providers, scopes, and measurement approaches; neither establishes a current chart position for This City Is Ours.

JustWatch says its rankings draw on user actions such as clicking streaming offers, adding titles to a watchlist, and marking titles as seen. Its charts cover 140 countries and update daily, so a JustWatch position should not be treated as a direct count of viewers or compared as though it were the same measure as another provider’s chart. See JustWatch’s U.S. TV-show chart and FlixPatrol’s October 2026 worldwide chart.

How do the two dramas differ?

Series Setting and premise What the comparison means
This City Is Ours Liverpool gangland; Sean Bean plays crime boss Ronnie Phelan. A crime-drama recommendation for viewers drawn to MobLand, not a connected series.
MobLand London crime-family conflict; Tom Hardy plays Harry da Souza, with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as Conrad and Maeve Harrigan. A separate Paramount+ series, with its own story and release schedule.

The available sources do not provide comparable audience totals for the two shows. Paramount+ reported that MobLand drew 8.8 million viewers during its first seven days after its March 30, 2025 premiere, defining viewers from internal global household data by dividing total watch time by runtime. That figure is Paramount+’s measure for March 30 through April 5, 2025; it should not be set against This City Is Ours’ reported chart rank as if the two measured the same thing. Paramount+’s announcement describes the figure and method.

Is MobLand over or replaced?

No. Paramount+ announced on August 13, 2026 that MobLand season two would launch globally on September 18, with new episodes scheduled weekly on Fridays through a November 20 finale. The announcement also said season one was available to binge on Paramount+ globally. That schedule means the “replacement” phrasing should not be read as news that MobLand has ended. Check Paramount+ for current episode availability in your territory. Paramount+’s season-two announcement has the stated schedule.

Where can you watch This City Is Ours?

Availability depends on country and can change as distribution rights and catalog windows shift. An indexed Deadline report said AMC Networks acquired U.S. rights and listed international sales that included Stan, Sky, Bell Media, Movistar Plus+, and HBO Max, among others. That distribution history is not a guarantee that the series is currently available on any one service. Search the title in your country’s streaming apps or an up-to-date availability guide before subscribing. Deadline’s report on the U.S. rights deal and international sales describes the distribution context.
